I won,t be taking any furniture to Moscow , but i have quite a lot of stuff in cartons , not to mention a Harley motorcycle that needs transporting there....

Anyone got any clues about a company that will transport all this stuff to Moscow as cheaply as possible...?

I guess its going to be a transit sized box van to get it all in...

I could store a lot of it at a friends farm , but if i can get it all to Moscow it will save the trouble and expense of coming back to collect it all...

I am not sure where i am going to put it all yet , there certainly is not room in our appartment in Moscow...but maybe at my Ladies daughters house..?

It would be best to contact a company such as Allied Pickfords. They know all about the paperwork, customs formalities and for sure also how to "smoothen" the import formalities.

When I moved to Poland in 2004 from Belgium, Allied Pickfords did my moving. They were not cheap but very good.
I wonder how you will manage to get your motorcycle cleared in Russia. Getting my car registered in Poland way back in these olden times is a story on itself...

Good luck anyway.

Maybe send delphiandomine a PM.

He won't bother replying...he is too busying arguing on the internet about **** that doesn't matter. He told me he would reply to a request for information "when he had time" then blew me off entirely. But he has all kinds of time to ***** about nonsense online. I would look elsewhere for advice.

But you wanted free immigration info? Theres no money in that.

In your own words a "request for information".

WR's a great guy who came to a PF meeting in Poznan and was thoroughly entertaining - interesting stories, a sense of humour and a positive attitude. In other words, the kind of guy that I'd help for free in the blink of an eye.

On the other hand, why would I even want to encourage someone to move here that I don't like on a personal level? If you want advice, I can supply you with the names of some lawyers who will charge you for their advice.

Exactly. I've no issue with helping decent people, or even people that I might have had a good argument with in the past - but I've got no time for childish idiots.

WR - I'll ask around, I've got a couple of contacts here that might be able to help. Russia's a nightmare, not least because the goods have to be in transit through Belarus :( But I'll see if I know anyone!

The thing is...you said you WOULD help. Then you blew me off. Well before we had any discussion or I posted at all really. Thus you had no idea we didn't see eye to eye on politics until after you blew me off and I called you out on your behavior.

On top of that...if you go back on your word because you disagree with someone's post (which again wasn't the case here as that came after you lied) that makes you a pathetic weasel.

All in all it comes out ahead for me because someone who is so petty cannot possibly be someone to trust. The very fact that you are making excuses rather than apologizing for your poor behavior makes me sure of that.

To all, please keep the personal stuff out of this thread. Thank you .

Mod...I was just warning Wildrover of the unreliability of delphiandomine. He has proven he cannot be trusted to live up to his word. Call it a "business review".

If one fails to do what he said he would...and then berates the person he blew off rather than apologizing and correcting the situation then he surely isn't a person of integrity. Would you trust your needs to someone like that?

Russia's a nightmare, not least because the goods have to be in transit through Belarus :(

There is another way - through Latvia, directly to Russia. Belarussian customs is real nightmare, of course.

BTW: WR, if you moving to permanent residence, maybe there is chances to import some used van or pickup without taxes and duties? At least there was such thing in the past. Dig into russian legislation a bit deeper - it may make whole process of moving litle bit more profitable, if you select make and model correctly (spacious enough to hold all your stuff and popular enough to sell it later here without problems). ;)

But anyway, consult someone knowing more about possible legal issues.

Gotta agree with all this.

WR, could you rent a box truck and drive all of your stuff to Russia, including the bike, yourself? That's how I'd do it here but I have no idea about the particulars of doing so between countries over there.

sell it later here without problems

Buying a truck then selling it once you're done with it sounds like a good idea too.

Thanks - you've just shown everyone why I shouldn't help you for free :)

Now, if you want to discuss maliciousness, shall I share your e-mail with everyone?

I never thought about that route, but I guess you'd probably lose just as much time going that way as you'd lose dealing with Belarusian customs?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Russia and Belarus now in some sort of Customs union? I seem to recall reading that there's no control between Belarus and Russia now.

I looked into this a while ago, and I don't think it's possible. Things change all the time of course, but I'm sure that Russia has been controlling the sale of personally imported vehicles quite strongly. Or should I say - it's possible, but only with getting whacked with tax.

WR, could you rent a box truck and drive all of your stuff to Russia, including the bike, yourself? That's how I'd do it here but I have no idea about the particulars of doing so between countries over there.

Forget about renting - virtually no-one would let you take their van into Russia.

WR - from quickly asking a couple of people, it may be possible to get it all taken on a truck going to Moscow. My friend says that there are always trucks doing Warsaw/Berlin-Moscow trips - and that you should be able to get the goods there as a backload quite cheaply. Shall find out more tomorrow :)

AFAIK, many Lithuanian transport companies prefer not to enter Belarus at all if loaded with anything - they choose way through Daugavpils and Zilupe/Sebezh. Too many troubles on belarussian border. Any wrong point in paperwork - and you are in deep trouble. But they often return through Belarus with empty truck to save some time and fuel.

There is no customs control between Russia and Belarus. At least if you drive passenger vehicle. Never asked what happens if you cross this border on a cargo truck. In the past there was at least some sort of transport inspection near border, checking for axis load to be within allowed limits and so on.

My friend says that there are always trucks doing Warsaw/Berlin-Moscow trips

Check at cargo.lt - there is hundreds of offers from various transport companies... You can also try to put your cargo to their database that is constantly monitored by many Lithuanian and Polish transport companies.

This sounds like the solution then. If over there is anything like over here, it's pretty easy to get your stuff on a LTL or a deadhead run tractor trailer. Motor transportation companies don't like their trucks running around empty or less than full. But they're also not likely to pickup/ deliver from/ to your destinations, so he'd still have to arrange to get his stuff to/ from their closest depots.

There was exclusion for persons going to permanent residence from abroad - they was allowed to import personal stuff and one car/van completely duty free. Not sure if it is still in effect, and what about sale of vehicle imported that way (there may be sale prohibition for a predetermined amount of time, not sure though). Anyway, I would suggest to dig curent legislation deeper. Used car import duties quite horrible now in Russia, so there may be some reason to use this opportunity to legally avoid it one time. ;)

There is no customs control between Russia and Belarus.

Belarus is a complete pain to get through , i would not recommend anyone going through Belarus just to save a few kms...

I took aid to kids in Belarus , and even under those circumstances the customs guys were a complete pain , i doubt it would be any easier if you were taking your own stuff through there...

If i decide to buy or hire a van ,i will be heading east to the Polish border area , then north through the Baltic states , Latvia , and Lithuania , not the shortest route perhaps , but past experiance has taught me the shortest route is not always the quickest...

I know the roads up that way , and where the money grabbing bandits in uniform like to hide...

The best solution for me would be to buy a decent Merc van in the UK and drive my stuff there myself , but i don,t know if i will have the cash to do that...

If all else fails , i will just have to take what i can in my Jeep and come back for the rest later....

My girlfriend has an appartment in Moscow , and her daughter has an old wooden house that belonged to her grandparents...

I managed to ship four boxes from the UK back here for only £200, so I doubt cost is the issue for you...?

Is that wooden house good for storage?

Can you get a trailer on your bike, or Jeep?

Is there anyone else you know in PL with a Jeep and possibly trailer who would do the journey with you for a small cost? (plus free accomodation in Moscow)

Then just leave the rest in the loft of your current house for later pick up... I had stuff all around the world at one point...

How far is this journey anyhoo?
OP wildrover  98 | 4430
27 Dec 2010 /  #27
Yeah , there is room at the house in Moscow to store my boxes , there is a lot more than four though , more like 50 boxes , though i have not counted them yet...?

My Jeep does have a tow bar on it , so i could drag a trailor behind it if i can get one...

Yes , i could sort out a place to stay in Moscow for anyone with a van that fancied visiting the city , i am working on that one...

I also have an old Landrover with a huge roof rack that could carry a ton of stuff , but its going to need some work on the back axle before it goes anywhere....

I am planning to go over there in March , so i still have a bit of time to come up with a plan...

Yeah it sounds like the solution is a combination of a convoy and a massive clean out...?
But if you want to keep your second 4WD you'll need to get it fixed anyway.

You sound like a charitable guy, will there be need for all your country squire belongings when living in the megalopolis that is Moscow? Are we talking family heirlooms, lawnmowers, or stuff you need for business?

How did you get it all from the UK in the first place?

Funny how we accumulate stuff... Just don't let it bog you down... You'll have your woman's stuff to contend with soon. ;)

I'll think twice before storing anything valuable in a inhabited countryside house here, around Moscow.... And most likely both times decision will be negative. ;) Especially if house is in one of "dacha villages" that inhabited only during summer.

Its a combination of all that stuff , well , apart from the heirlooms maybe..?

There is a load of books , tools , all manner of stuff , but its been trimed down to only stuff i really need to take to Russia , everything else will be given away or sold...

Its nice you think i am a charitable guy , and it was this that helped me get all my stuff to Poland from the UK....

A Polish trucking company in Szczecin had been helping me out with bringing truck loads of stuff from the UK to the childrens home in Poland , and they were kind enough to bring my house contents too on one of the trips , saved me a fortune in moving costs...

Oh , you asked me how far it is...? From my farm in Poland to Moscow , its about 1000 miles...
