Moving to Lviv, Ukraine - mother is Polish

Hello first i'm sorry if i made this thread in wrong forum but as polish and poland is included i hope these can be to help from other members

Hello me and my mother consider moving to L'viv and need some help.

My mom was born in poland but her grandparents was from a town which soviet occupied in the ww2.
So we have family that we want to search after. now as Lviv was polish city long ago is there still people speaking polish there?

Because we want to move there but my mother only speak polish and not english and if we going to buy apartment there
we need someone who can translate polish to ukrainian or ukrainian to polish.

Is there anyone on this forum who lives in lviv and can give advice on apartment agency who have employee who speak polish aswell?
we want to buy apartment and not rent btw

There's still a Polish speaking minority, and the language is well understood by locals. The version of Ukrainian spoken in L'viv isn't that far away from Polish as well. In practice, you can use Polish to get by, but you might need help when it comes to things such as medical care.

If you don't have Ukrainian citizenship, it's not very easy to move to Ukraine.


That's not much of a problem in L'viv, there are plenty of people with a decent knowledge of Polish there.

Very few Poles left... many Ukrainians know some Polish... they should be friendly when you visit as a tourist or want to buy something but I guess it might change a bit if you want to live there without knowing the language.. It's similar to Gerries visiting Poland... all is good when they come, leave some money and are gone... Besides, I don't think in general now is good time to buy property in Ukraine... it might be cheap but the property rights there are not protected like in the west... and they have war in some areas...

That's like saying that buying property in Katowice was a bad idea in 1991 because rockets were raining down on Zagreb, which is only 750km away from Katowice.

Christ on the bike, you can't even say if that state will exist in a year or two. There are huge problems, financial and others, that are not directly related to Donbass. And even without recent mess, there's been a huge problem with ownership over there, people discovering that for instance their company now belong to someone else (because "someone else" bribed the business registry guy) were not that unusual cases.

Why would you move to L'viv? My family is from Warsaw, Masuria and Silesia. Shall I cut myself into 3 and move there because of my ancestry?
