Hi!
My son is interested in bachelor's program in Dutch college and need any advice or help
We are non European country passport holders who are currently living in Poland. My son is going to obtain diploma of International Baccalaureate program next year and wants to apply to colleges in Holland.

Most of the classmates are thinking about applying to British college and looked not much care about recent tuition raise. However, he is different and we care about tuition and living expenses in UK. We don't think any partial schlorships or extra job would be helpful for him even if he is accepted one of colleges in UK.

We have heard that collges in Dutch have many renownd English program ,and think tuition and living expenses are affordable for us. We thonght about German, French or Swiss but there are language barriers. My son speaks only Korean( mother tongue), Chinese, English, and little Spanish.

His choice has to be narrowed again because he is adments about his major.
He is interested not any Civil Englineering or Information Technology majors(they are more popular) but , Automotive, Aeronautics or Techical Engineering major. I spent a lot of time to search on the Internet that are fit for my son's favor and qualification. I narrowed down only three programs, Advanced Technology in Twente Unv., Aeronautical Engineeirng in Techical Unv. of Delft and, Automotive Engineering in Han Unv.of Applied Sciences. I hope he can be acceped to Delft because it's renowned college world wide. However, he is more like Han Unv. because he has been maniac about automobile since he was as lttle as 1 year old. His father thinks that this program starts for the first time and expects few trial and error and takes some time to settle down and wants him not to apply.

I have heard we can apply four schools on line in Duch college application system but, those are the few information I've got.
We have to prepare motivation letter and some say this style of motivation letter in Dutch is different in UK. We need any kind of information or advice , preferably professional help to apply for the college. I disappointed many times from his current high school and decide to try to find out private help even though it cost some money. Please let me know if anybody know college counselor for my son.

We've been here in Poland for 4 months and It's really hard and lonly to deal with this problem because it's not easy to find proper information or help and share our hardship.

hope good news!!!

You need to get in touch with those colleges. They will provide you with the help/counselors you need.

Surely there are select universities/colleges ('colleges' means something entirely different in Dutch, however. it means 'courses' such as 'to take courses' = colleges lopen) in the Netherlands which offer such degree programs IN English, given by international faculty from English-speaking countries. As far as whether a Dutch BA would be superior, i.e. more marketable than an American BA, I really couldn't say.

Another thing is that even if many European institutions offer courses in English for foreign students pursuing various disciplines, ALL transcript materials should be translated prior into the language of the country of the school being applied to, i.e. Dutch for the Netherlands, Polish for Poland, etc... and so forth. Might seem a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised at the number of rude awakenings many have received, thinking that with this globalized "openness" and the spread of world English, English-language applications from the US are totally acceptable, and they're NOT!

Once in the country, not knowing the language perfectly or even fluently should pose no particular problem, as it's true that in the Netherlands for instance, almost everyone at a major university will know excellent, academic Englsh.

Thanks for the simple advice BB Man but, makes me remind that getting in touch with them is the indispensible procedure for our case after all. I already have them delivered the application pamplets either on line or face mail.

Of course, I have been thinking about direct contact with the admission personal in the colleges. However, I want to know the information that are more practical, the kinds that are hidden behind the official lines of their written procedure.

Any way, I will try to ask them more and torture^^; them as far as I could from now on. Such as, ask them to tell me real dead line for application ( have heard that it's highy disadvatages if applicants just follow the official, specified application dead line) and what should be included in the letter if they need teacher's recommandation letter. Tell me the truth, I can't ask them to send me an sample recommendation letter or, motivation letter since it must be look stupid, right?
