Moved from another thread
There were numerous factors that caused the fall of the Soviet Empire...

You are right. But those who payed the biggest price were those who lost their liefs and most of them happen to be Muslims mujahedins.

I'd say it was the 10's of millions of Russians who died over decades many Muslims in the 'stans to be sure but mostly white Russians who suffered the most.

Should Russia, as it is now, be allowed to enter the NATO and the European Union because of that?

Because of what? Joining NATO or the EU is a possibility for any country as far as I understand. If Russia would choose change some things I suppose it could, in the future.

Because of price the Russians payed. If you lost the context.

Europeans and Americans

And Poles! JP2, Wałęsa, Brzeziński and Kukliński all played a significant role in the collapse of the Evil Empire. Non-Poles who contributed included Reagan, Thatcher, Bush Sr and Gorbachev

Of course Poles! Some of the biggest figures in the parade of important people who brought it down :)

Once again read Brzeziński's own words: the secret operation [against the Soviet Union planed and put into practice by Brzeziński] was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter. We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam war. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a conflict that brought about the demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.

It was during the 80'. And who fight then. Do you remember?

The actual fighters on the ground were Mujahedins. Saudi Arabia financed the whole thing, Americans sold weapons and Jimmy Carter's national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, turban on his head, shouted: "Allah is on your side." - these are the words of Tatiq Ali. You can find this and more like this information in Harry Kreisler's program, available on youtube: Conversations with history, and the interviewee in one of his hundreds of programs was Tariq Ali.

Zbigniew Brzezinski

Whether we like it or not, all of history and current politics is about tactical alliances, intrigues and secret deals. One's enemy's enemy is one's temporary ally until one of the sides does a bout turn.

Absolutely, Pol, in politics (and in business) there are no friendship and no love.
