This one's for BB to comment on others are also welcome of course but he might be particularly interested, interesting situation how bad is the German flight west? will some of the Poles fill the vacuum when labor restrictions ease early next year-Some have predicted a Polish workforce of over 200 000 other say it's going to be near that. Have a look at the coverage and please comment.

-BTW great command of English bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11454225

some reflections news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/newsnight/8359845.stm

And apparently Poles no longer afraid of Germany in a survey wbj.pl/article-51374-poles-no-longer-afraid-of-germany.html

And why Germany is happy to punch its weight, on that I knew it well i guess its inevitable now brace yourself folks(:

And finally will we see Poles moving onto east German Pastures making up the population heading west, apparently it could lead to a brain drain according to some, personally I am a little sceptical.

Seems as though people have nothing to add about this momentous occasion:)

BTW I am grateful to admin for sorting this thread out:)

I think with regards to Poland, the big day will be May 1st. It will be interesting to see more Poles in professional positions, maybe that will change the mindset over the border a bit?

Who knows it might, it will be interesting to see what the exact number will actually be. There seems to be a bit of a discrepancy between what the government says and what the independent experts say. I am inclined to think that the number will be somewhere in the middle. An economy that will most likely grow in excess of 4% next year has to find its workforce from somewhere, not that the unemployment rate is especially low at some 11%.

It is interesting to note that there is a bit more pride and self assertion on Germany's side, which was probably lacking some 5-10 years ago. I think that is probably a positive, there is no point in them hiding in their shell i prefer their politics to the French on the European stage.

I don't think there will be as big of an exodus as there was with the UK. Wages for low end jobs...aren't all that great. Germany also isn't too picky about who works labor jobs, there are tons of Poles in Germany already doing that type of work, I'd say more than in the UK.

It'll be interesting to see what the effect is on white collar jobs.

I think they can stop now with this partying.....okay...maybe the 25th again but that should be it. Germany is back to normal and period.

;)

I've read recently the whole number is 1.5 million (I've thought it would have been more).

There was always flow of people back and forth in this region....it will come to that again and it will be seen as something normal again. I'm sure of it. ;)

Well...many Germans aren't happy about how the EU is managed. The crisises of the last years have shown it.
Many think a german way would be better (of course many countries balk against that). But seeing that Germany is the mose successful country they should come to rethink their knee jerk reaction.

If we want to keept this thing that binds us working we need to make it abit better....
So yes Germany will assert itself more, and it's not necessarily a bad thing for our neighbours!
