Do you think Germany will stop buying out Polish media?

I am all for Polish German Friendship and business and relations and everything. And forgiving the War, and living in the present (as soon as we are done with big and showy funerals)

So moving on to the present, I would like to see the press market in Polish hands, instead of German corporations buying out EVERY newspaper in Poland, even if it's the smallest local news.

There should be normal healthy competition, but it's hampered with the lack of free media. Media used to be Soviet, now it's German. And really I'm not exaggerating.

Need I explain that press shapes the popular thinking? Our is not left alone.

How is that for Germans wanting to be friends, BB?

Well, there was never any hatred between them so, why not? ;) ;) ;)

No, hatred is a propaganda tool to justify stupid economic decisions, Seanus. They really were good citizens. But as Soviets needed to prove a thousand years of hatred to justify brotherly love, so Americans need Polish-Russian conflict and Polish German probably.

do you think I hate someone because of their press corporations? Not really. It's financially disagreeable for me. Simples.

thanks for saying that, otherwise I would be left in the dark age of thinking. I wonder what shapes your thinking Ksysia.

The overwhelming majority of Polish press is owned by Polish interests. Some of the dying local periodicals were purchased by VGP. Axel Springer is a minority stakeholder in the paper that they started... And Fakt, well, if you get your news from there, I don't think it really matters who is printing it.

criticized the fledgling government

The right to criticise is what free speech is all about. The previous Platformer regime felt that democracy is when 90% of Poland's German-owned media brownose PO and badmouth the opposition and when those in power stack the TK with their own hand-picked appointees. Anything else destroys democracy. Ask KOK (Komitet Obrony Koryta)!

90% of Poland's German-owned media

Which media is German owned?

Ok, onet.pl - 70% shares belong to German company, that's just one example I know without googling.

Funny how TVN is actually controlled by Americans, despite the rage that PiS supporters have for it ;)

Soros to buy Radio Zet

I see Soros is getting ready to make sure his anointed one (Tusk) gets elected as President of Poland...

No - it is Agora that is bidding for that. It's a publicly owned company and I would not be surprised if one of Soros funds has some shares in it. However you can buy some yourself tomorrow morning if you like - price is 10.35. Then you can attend a shareholders meeting and spout your nonsense about Tusk and Soros.

I don't know if you have ever listened to Radio Zet - it has very neutral and banal 2 minute news segments every hour squeezed between 80s hits (dirty dancing is a favorite) and Lidl adverts. It is the last vehicle either Soros or Putin or Kaczynski would use for propaganda.

Not a bad idea actually. If they include Radio Zet in their portfolio, then they'll be quite a strong media company. They'll have a lot of synergies between print, media and other ventures such as cinemas and shopping centres.

I see "bolek_tusk" fails to mention that one of the other bidders is a company controlled by PiS, which will be granted a loan on a entirely uncommercial basis to buy it. He also fails to mention that PZU (state-controlled) is one of the major shareholders in Agora.
