Well we are about to enter november 2012 and we have seen a little snow over the weekend, according to many people I meet in Warsaw, this winter is going to be the most severe winter we have seen. I would just like to remind you doomsayers out there, it is the same I hear from Poles every year and you laugh and scoff that we Brits & Irish, are focused on the weather. In the words of the great ' William "Billy" Connolly, Jr., CBE (born 24 November 1942) '

There is no such thing as bad weather, it is only the wrong clothes

How many of you out there have also been informed this will be the coldest winter on record

I ve heard that it is expected to be unusual winter both at my mom's (NC usa) and home (AZ usa)
not heard much here in FL. Nothing about "coldest" though . Just colder than usual or miserable

What are Polish Winters like.. I like crisp, dry, snowy winters as oposed to drizzley damp greay ones

Strange because all my neighbours are saying winter won't come until January.

I like crisp, dry, snowy winters

That is how winters in Polska usually are.

It's impossible to give accurate long range forecasts and official Polish ones tend to be less accurate than most. Though the feeling is that it will be a hard one. As usual a wretched February, but this time colder than usual.

Ive yet to witness a colder temperature than -36 January 18th to the 19th 2006 - Wroclaw, Poland. It reached that temp at night the days were around -18 during that period.

The winters are at their most harsh when the temp doesn't get any warmer than -10 for a few weeks, thats relentless IMO.

according to many people I meet in Warsaw, this winter is going to be the most severe winter we have seen.

So called reliable reports from Germany said the worst winter in 10,000 years not so long ago, but it simply didn't come.

Like the overused "tired of London, tired of life" quote, this is not strictly correct.

This only applies to colder weather. If it's too hot, and you're already in your birthday suit, it's bad weather, not the wrong clothes :)

Unfortunately, I work with a bunch of wimpy zmarzlaki who think that 23 degrees is "cold" :(

Whenever I've been in Poland in winter, it's always rained! I've still never seen snow on Polish soil (except high up in the Tatry, but that doesn't really count) - we get more "Polish winters" here! lol

What! it snows ever year, you must have been real unlucky, i think there must be somthing lilke an avearge of snow on the ground for atleast three months a year. I can vouch for snow on the ground for more than five months consecutively in certain years.

It does often experience freeze / thaw conditions though.

Do you live in the greenhouses of the Botanical Gardens in Powiśle maybe?
Every winter in Poland has its snow and cold for prolonged terms.
That said and done, weather forecasts do not further as 10 days - and get shaky by that time.
It is in my view nonsense to predict weather for January.
Although I would welcome a really cold winter with lots of snow. It would kill all the bugs for the next summer an restore the water tables.

And to work...I will get somehow :)

Unlucky indeed, lol.

One day, I will eventually see Polish snow - when I get snowed-in and stranded at the airport probably, haha.

2012 - 2013 Will be the most severe Polish winter.

I remember spending the 01-02 winter in southeastern Poland. During that December the temperature was constantly 18-20 degrees below zero! During the night -25C.

keep in mind that it was only two or three winters ago when we had the worst winter for 100 years.

what is severe ? extreme cold can be dealt with and public transport keeps moving. however cold, snow and ice are the problem.

Do any of you go jogging in the snow/ is it possible? Living in England, obviously it's never an issue.

Well it is certainly a long winter 2012/2013 March 13th and still plenty of snow on the ground.

Snowing again in Warsaw, the snow just seems to go and on. Its been a long harsh winter with no signs of letting up...

You can take it with a pinch of salt, the Radio Zet was saying this week we have now entered a period of the three season year due to global warning...

Argh, still some snow in Śląsk, this winter will never end, it's getting boring ;)

Harsh winter ????? Have you seen such conditions this winter ? Me , not. It has been long, but definitively not harsh. I don`t remember really cold days with strong winds . This kind of conditions you can call harsh . The temperatures were from +5 to -8 C .I think the worst factor was that there were too many gloomy days .

.I think the worst factor was that there were too many gloomy days .

This winter season has had more days with snow on the ground than I can remember grey and gloomy days are harsh to the senses Monia.

I don`t remember really cold days with strong winds

I do I take my dog for a walk three times a day. Monia the weather feels very different when you get outside. It is never the same when you go from heated apartment to heated car, into air conditioned office. Its has been a long drawn out winter.

this is true. however, it's a nice day today with blue sky.

i have the idea that a lot of forum folk have spent either little time in Poland or have short memories.

it was by no means a harsh or bad winter.

I mentioned harsh NOT extreme there is a difference, some folk seem to mix the two.

I have the idea that some folk on here have been listening to the two false starts that spring has already arrived. Mr Moderator when was the last time we had snow on the ground in Warsaw on March 30th. Most everyone I speak to here in Warsaw consider the winter of 2012/2013 to be abnormal in its prolonged period. Many have lived in Warsaw all their lives or have been here for a very long period just like me...

Sure, actual winter was not, January was warmer than usual, Feb was normal but I have never seen before so many days with snow coverage and so low temps in March. Snow in late March or even early April is nothing unusual but IF it comes after a warmer period and melts down after 2-3 days. There's something seriously wrong this year. What's worse I don't see any radical change even in long term forecasts. Next week the same crap, after that goes up to +5/-1 at night. Come on, it's terribly low for 2nd week of April.

Because it is... It hasn't been a very cold winter, it's been normal, but it's too freakin' LONG... ;O I don't remember a snowy Easter - when I look outside my window it looks like Christmas o_O'

Apparently not enough Marzannas have been drown this year lol
