Recent Polish Scientific Discoveries... (Scientific News)

So this thread is anything roughly based on 'Poland and Science', as there is nothing on science on this site, that I can find.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

life history

Here we present well-preserved and securely dated tetrapod tracks from Polish marine tidal flat sediments of early Middle Devonian (Eifelian stage) age that are approximately 18 million years older than the earliest tetrapod body fossils and 10 million years earlier than the oldest elpistostegids. They force a radical reassessment of the timing, ecology and environmental setting of the fish-tetrapod transition, as well as the completeness of the body fossil record.

You can find the article here: nature.com/nature/journal/v463/n7277/full/nature08623.html#top - Tetrapod trackways from the early Middle Devonian period of Poland

Finally a thread worth to post something :) Thank you Sean,
Poland is also has a good place in supercomputers. This computers generally built for some specific calculations in chemistry and physics.

Poland has the most efficient supercomputer in energy consumption according to green500.org.
green500.org/lists/2008/11/top/list.php?from=1&to=100

And has many supercomputers.

It is not suprising there is an experienced IT work force. And many big companies are investing in Poland not only because of cheap labour but also qualified professionals who wants to work in their homeland.

Finally a thread worth to post something :) Thank you Sean,

I just thought a change from the normal threads might be nice for a change.

Poland has the most efficient supercomputer in energy consumption according to green500.org.

I know very little about computers so I googled and youtubed it and got these.
I don't know what it does but it looks impressive :)

And also

Professor Sylwester Porowski's group managed to beat the world's foremost scientific institutes in the race to produce the blue laser.

(The blue laser has)four times more information than before can be packed on optic disks, which means that in future CD-ROM disks will be able to hold much more data than they do now with the red lasers used to record and read information.

Dear mods or Admin,

Just to clarify, I originally titled the thread 'Poland and Science', admittedly not the most gripping of titles but it was supposed to encompass more than just this bit of news.

The thread title was changed to:
A big anthropological discovery in Poland.
It is in fact a Paleontological discovery not anthropological one.

So perhaps the mods would be so kind as to change the title to "Polish Scientific Discoveries" or "What Poland has done to expand knowledge" or "Bikini Tetrapods gone wild", please.

A big anthropological discovery was made near Kielce recently which will greatly improve our understanding.

it is a simple finding. vatikan have better scientists. they already discovered the god and they are researching things beyond the god. these scientists are primitives, arent their competitiors of vatikan scientists who are competing with imam scientists and the likes.

it is interesting that our ancestors were fossils, isnt it.. how do you combine this with the formation of earth theories that say the earth was a fire sphere when seperated from the sun? before fossils, we were ash? also, sun is hydrogen-helium conversion. ok, hydrogen is everywhere in the space. but, where did this oxygen come? logically, life started with water h2o, h already existed in the fire earth, but oxygen? none to exist. it is very recently, in 2000s, a far planet with some molecular oxygen was discovered if claims are true. there must be a blow in space that transferred the very rare oxygen to the earth to combine with hydrogen to form the water, hence the life. but, then, why didnt they find water in that planet with oxygen as hydrogen exists also there as everywhere in space? i think the key to the existence of the life is oxygen. what do you think where it came from?

it is a simple finding.

It is a finding, yes but it changes the fundamentals of what we think we know so far.

And just to clarify the Vatican's position, they have made it very clear.

In an October 22, 1996, address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Pope John Paul II updated the Church's position to accept evolution of the human body:

"In his encyclical Humani Generis (1950), my predecessor Pius XII has already affirmed that there is no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of the faith regarding man and his vocation, provided that we do not lose sight of certain fixed points....Today, more than a half-century after the appearance of that encyclical, some new findings lead us toward the recognition of evolution as more than a hypothesis."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_and_the_Catholic_Church#Pope_John_Paul_II

it is interesting that our ancestors were fossils, isnt it.. how do you combine this with the formation of earth theories that say the earth was a fire sphere when separated from the sun? before fossils, we were ash?

That's right, God put fossils in the ground to question your faith and God put you on this earth to question mine.

Oxygen is the most common element of the earth's crust and hydrogen is the most common element of the universe.

what do you think where it came from?

I think, you are speaking out of your arse, there is water on the moon and Mars.

the Church's position to accept evolution of the human body:

Church is being evoluted. No other chance anyway, if they want to keep their wealth.
Imams too being evoluted by saying "god created everywhere for you to research" lol.
I am sure they are doing researches on love story of adam and eve as they claim the creation started with this love. I am curiously waiting how they will connect this love story to evolution theory which says we were sh*ts, pardon, fossils.

there is water on the moon and Mars.

hmm, really? when i was showing the moon to my old mom, who passed away many years ago, and telling her that people went to the moon, she who didnt even know how to read and write was replying me that "nomad, do you really believe them, they brought some stones from a mountain and telling you they went to the moon." i laughed at her. after some years, when i read similar serious claims on the net i was shocked and felt regretful for laughing..... i dont know who to believe anymore. people really went to the moon, mars, etc? if they didnt, then, it means church too believed in their lies of scientists who might have also blown evolution theories. lol. by the way, i read before that someones carrying steel to the moon to construct a hotel or a big building. my guess is that some wealthy people and top scientists are trying to escape away from the earth cause they probably see no future on earth. likely, they also knew economy crisis in advance that may lead to the world war.

Oxygen is the most common element of the earth's crust and hydrogen is the most common element of the universe.

yes, we know hydrogen which also exists in the sun. if the earth is seperated from the sun, it is normal that there is hydrogen on the earth. but, there is no oxygen in the sun and almost no where in the space to the present knowledge. how comes there is oxygen in the earth? it seems that there is contradiction between theories of formation of the earth and formation of the life on earth which is dependent on the oxygen. ps: evolution is based on continum theory. but, with this oxygen thing, it seems there is a discontinuity in earth formation.

i dont know who to believe anymore. people really went to the moon, mars, etc?

No human has gone to Mars yet.
Japans lunar photos confirm the U.S's moon expedition.

if they didnt, then, it means church too believed in their lies of scientists who might have also blown evolution theories.

Going to the moon has nothing to do with evolution to my knowledge.

I can think of a few people I would like to send to the moon. There is not much on the moon, I will stick it out down here.

there is no oxygen in the sun and almost no where in the space to the present knowledge.

.

Oxygen is the third most abundant element in the universe by mass after hydrogen and helium

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen

it seems that there is contradiction between theories of formation of the earth and formation of the life on earth which is dependent on the oxygen.

You make the assumption that life needs oxygen and/or water but it fact before the oxygen was released from the earth's crust, there was life on earth (Obligate anaerobe) which died out because of the oxygen.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obligate_anaerobe

Read "A Short History of Nearly Everything" it is a good read and will help a general understanding of.... well.... everything :)

Please do not pollute very promising thread with rumours which is not even proved. Everyone is free to believe whatever they want but modern science today has very solid methodology and there is no room for discussion unless you want to believe rumours not truths.

I don't know what it does but it looks impressive :)

These computers are used to simulate some physical and chemical experiences. Like for nuclear exploisons some tests maybe very difficult and dangerous to do but it is possible to simulate and calculate energy come out without even really testing it.

Or they can be tried to test some new design for an aircraft without a real flight. They will produce very realistic results in future (Still they don't have enough processing speed to simulate all parameters in the real world).

So we will be able to play some fantastic video games? :)

My computer is slow too ;)

I would argue this point, after all it is not infallible, to error is human.

I thought the best thing to do was to answer (with links), in this way others may benefit and we would not have to go over the same information all the time.

It was inevitable that someone would bring god into it, so better sooner than later, now where were we? :)

Hehe, they actually just make calculation without any display.

My computer is slow too ;)

An average home pc is not even capable of calculate or display water flow (in small amount) in full realistic scale.

I would argue this point, after all it is not infallible, to error is human.

Yes but again it should be done by scientific way and research not with funny rumours.

I agree.

And now one of Poland's most famous scientists:
Marie Curie 1867 - 1934 and Radioactivity.

P.S. Thanks for changing the title among other things and what? you didn't like "Bikini Tetrapods gone wild"? :)

this thread may get edited while it is decided what to do with it.

Neanderthaler Poland

A group of scientists from the Department of Archaeology, University of Szczecin in Poland found thefirst Neanderthal remains in Poland.

They found three molars (teeth) from a male Neanderthal in North West Krakow.

A group of scientists from the Department of Archaeology, University of Szczecin in Poland was the first Neanderthal remains .

It is possible that Cave Barn in the Polish Jura Chain , where it was found , was a place of burial.

Since the nineteenth century in Poland were found only traces of Neanderthal , mainly produced by the tool , but it never remains.

Szczecin researchers revealed that back in 2008 naleźli three Neanderthal molars , and from then surrendered find detailed examination .

So Wikipedia will have to change it's entry:

Now often also considered a distinct species, Homo neanderthalensis (otherwise known as Homo sapiens neanderthalensis) lived in the southern half of Poland during the Middle Paleolithic period, that is between 300,000 and 40,000 BCE. Various relics were found and different Neanderthal cultures are distinguished, even though no actual human bones from this period have been identified.

Do you mean Germans are primitive, unenlightened, culturally and intellectually backward, ignorant people; barbarians and people with very old-fashioned ideas.

OR ;)

Origin:
1860-65; after Neanderthal, valley in Germany, near Düsseldorf, where evidence of Neanderthal man was first found.

I do see a resemblance but without the helmet it is difficult to tell for sure :)

Great! National Centre for Science Unveiled in Krakow.

Poland's new National Centre for Science (Narodowe Centrum Nauki - NCN) opened on 4 March in Krakow. It is the only agency charged with distributing funds for applied research on a large scale.
ncn.gov.pl/index-en.html

This will be overseen by a council of specialists from across Poland and the hope is that red tape can be avoided by centralising the agency. This year's capital injection is 305 million PLN, however, this will increase significantly after a coherent set of policy objectives for the centre have been formalised.
