Polish Post delays restructuring plans

Jerzy Jozkowiak, the newly appointed chairman of Poczta Polska has decided to delay the restructuring of the national postal service, citing concerns that savings that were to made from the move may not be as much as previously thought.

The restructuring of Poczta Polska was to include the laying off of around 5,000 postal workers as well as turn 669 post offices into postal agencies, which would be found in shops and petrol station forecourts.

Postal workers protested in March as a result of the planned redundancies.

However, Jozkowiak has decided to forego the restructuring, telling Dziennik Gazeta Prawna that the profits gained from such a move are not so certain as previously thought.

Earlier, Poczta Polska’s plans to lay off workers and shut down the post offices estimated a saving of 200-300 million zloty (50-75 million euro) annually.

If they want to save the nation that much without cutting even a single job, why don't they just stop their staff from stealing so much post?

Why not link to the actual interview, which give's much better picture of the sensible reasons for the delay, paraphrased omitting some important points, such as the praise from an expert.

You stopped the plan for restructuring and conversion or elimination of post offices in Poland adopted by the former president, who was required to give the post office savings.

I held my plan , which was only one of the elements of the restructuring . This does not mean showstopper changes , on the contrary .

I had to pause the realization of the previous plan , not only because he aroused protests from staff and customers , but because they have not found economic justification for it . With the media learned that nearly 700 outlets to be converted or closed . But I do not know what criteria . There was analyzed in terms of profitability, market conditions and customer perspective. Would be first converted into 400 units , then the number has grown to more than 1,200 , and eventually fall to 669.

Thanks. It's a pleasure.

Smarter still would be to post something about the restructuring plans for Poczta Polska and the delay thereof.

They certainly are a monolitrhic organisation. When I was doing some work there a few years ago, every document to be copied had to be accompanied by a detailed request in duplicate then taken away to a locked room, PRL style.

I liked having to produce all paperwork in duplicate and then submit a request for the second copy to be archived. Obviously original signatures on all of it.

But with that said, I worked with hugely nice people who were massively embarrassed by some of their colleagues.

Looking at it carefully and with a dirty mind, I can see why people find the new logo so funny. Perhaps they're offering a new kind of service in which the mail comes in a very different way...
