undefined Pete maybe you could also explain why so many english feel the need to leave your beautiful country to come work in scotland, the oil industry in Aberdeen is full of english workers for example, i cannot get a job as the english have taken all the jobs, but i have a job outside my chosen profession but had no problem getting on the dole for the month i was out of work, maybe you could explain further your point re poles taking up your dole,
Only in agencies will an Englishman be laid off because of a migrant worker. Forget agency work, that's a migrants' employment agency. Unless you are willing to work every bit of overtime they give you, wqrk hard, sweat blood then you don't stand a chance in agency work.
There are many full time positions for people and by getting a permanent job then migrant workers will not be a threat. Most permanent jobs tend to go to the British nationals rather than migrants, who are generally employed via agency, so **** the agencies and get something proper.

Not entirely sure that is true. Outsourcing. At the company where I worked (in IT) the full-time and contract programmers were gradually replaced by placing the work they did with non-UK companies.
St george you mentioned only if you are willing to sweat blood work overtime then agencys will take on brits, well if all brits did sweat blood at there work then agencies might not need to take on migrant workers, just a thought mind you!
I am not going to promote employment agencies but agencies have their uses.
From the Employers side it takes a lot of time and effort to recruit someone, then if they are not up to it you have to jump through hoops to fire them.
Agencies fill a gap in the market.
From the workers point of view...total rip off.
Edit - On second thoughts....agencies should be made illegal !
U want a laugh, I'll give u one. Last week, I received an e-mail from an employment agency in the UK. I was taken aback. They were disappointed that I hadn't sent them an updated CV. The last contact? June 2001, LOL, WTF?
Good luck to Polish people who liaise with such losers.
I personally hate agencies, sat and filled out a application form, came to the criminal record part, thought i'd be honest so put down that i had football violence convictions, (misguided youth ;))
To be told we don't employ your sort, So much for a second chance in this country.

In an agency you get laid off if you decline one bit of overtime no what reason it is. I once worked for an agency. I was very rarely ill. Even now I'm very rarely ill. I've only taken about 3 days sick since 2001+. As I said, I fell ill once and took ONE day off. My agency continously rang me on that day despite me already informing them and then at the end of the day they said that I had been laid off and I should report to the head office for another job which could take days to get me another. I then decided to get a proper job, and what a great decision it turned out to be. My wage is much much higher than an agency job and the good thing about a permanent job is I HAVE RIGHTS.
In agency work you do NOT have rights. You are treated like a piece of dirt for very little pay. You are looked down on in workplaces due to yourself being an agency. Agency staff are "nothing." They want you to bust your balls for as little as £180 for 42hrs a week. £180? Bloody hell, I wouldn't even get out of bed for that now.
Advice for anyone looking for a job. Agency should be the VERY last resort.
Migrant workers can take all the agency jobs if they like. I wouldn't envy them.

Agreed - but not all agencies are bad. There are some reputable ones who will treat you reasonably and give you holidays etc(but the pay is still lower than permanent work). As you know many people work for an agency while looking for a permanent job which is probably the most sensible way.
<<<<What is wrong with Poland that Poles immigrate?.>>>
I asked myself the same questions. In general for better life. Is it better life if small house is rented by 2-3 families with children? No privacy. One kitchen to use,one bathroom. I can't believe that there is no tension there.
I can understand few blokes renting together staying for a year or two saving money and coming back. But families????

well i have never yet come across this and i know a fair few polish families here in my neck of the woods in England and they dont share with anyone but themselves .....
i have come across say polish females with babies sharing a place together and majority of the males tend to cluster up together say 2-3 to a property dependent on size
normally a three bed house would usually have 3 same sex in sharing or it would be 3 couples sharing the property each having a bedroom a piece
A plumber earns more money in Poland, than, e.g. a teacher or a doctor.
...is rubbish according to the 10 or so doctors i've met. (but perhaps the plumbers own the clinics). Perhaps you meant if doctors only work in a hospital? Doctors make pretty good money when they work privately compared to plumbers working privately.
The question I have is why people are SO POORLY PAID in Poland. I live here and while i have some ideas i can't compete with the insight of many.
Why are people paid absolute sh*t here? I do see loads of shiny new cars and flats going for crazy high prices (who can afford the mortgage, i'll never know).
The media will have you thinking that Blacks do nothing, but rob and steal and want to be on welfare when in reality there are more whites on welfare than Blacks...
not to be picky but there are more "whites" than "blacks" in the u.s. so that accounts for the numbers. Try using percentages to play your hand (whatever that may be).

I've worked with about 5 different agencies thinking that the way you're treated was down to just one individual agency but they were all the same. Yes, I was entitled to holidays, I think everyone is but you're not entitled to pay for bank holidays, Easter holidays or even the Christmas holidays so you can go approx. 2 weeks without getting paid. There are going to be many many people that aren't going to get paid for this bank holiday coming. I find that unfair especially with the price of living soaring. Agencies are only good for those that are desperate.
You should look for a permanent job in the UK via jobcentreplus.gov.uk

Yes, you're right. Doctors in practice earn much more because they work in several places. But I don't think a doctor should work that much - it's hard to concentrate when one's so tired.
To begin with, lots of people immigrated after world war 2 because they had friends and family in england and Britains economy was a lot stronger than the Polish. Recently, I think it is because the UK granted free movement to workers from the new member states. Britain is just a cheaper easier place to live in, also, because we are a rich country, most of us can afford to be choosy about our jobs, which means that the ones nobody wants to do are free. Polish people do the jobs we don't want to do. They are doing no harm and help alot, so we should just leave them be.
Like many things, there is some truth in that, njc. It has been captured in documentaries and I can really imagine it being true, knowing how Poles will accept less to get away from the humdrum of their home life. Also, there are many such jobs in the UK.

(sighs) Seanus you don't live here and haven't done for some years now. so what would know about the reality of life in the UK today?
The only reason that Polish people can take low wage jobs isn't because British people dont want to do them, more they don't want /can't live 10 to a room, skipping off when the Council Tax bill/leccy/gas comes on top.
Besides in my town I don't see Polish people in crappy jobs that "British people don't want", I see them in jobs we would be grateful for.

what a dumb statement! dont want to be rude but you certainly need some education in this field
Have you been to Costa Coffee recently? Nearly every Costa coffee or coffee shop I have been to (airports and Motorway service stations) have a Polish or an Eastern European person working there.
Its a Job most English people won't do. There are Polish people with good jobs in England too but to say the statement is a myth is just wrong.

Actually, the coffee place that I go to, Nero, has two English 20yo people and they are so sweet and cheerful that I tip for the coffee £2 each time.
Ksysia On your blog you have mention your status in UK There is only one problem with it, you can't call yourself an Ex-pat, you are an ordinary immigrant from Eastern Europe. Didn't you know this term is reserved for people from western countries ?
I read an article specifically about this phenomenon about 3 years ago. It mentioned that accountants and even doctors etc were moving from Poland to England because with the strength of the pound they were able to make a better living, even in unskilled work than they could at home. It was talking about a fear that Poland would end up loosing it's skilled labour force and looking at ways that this could be turned around.
It went on to mention that the Polish government was looking at incentives to help retain it's work force. Now I am not sure what these policies are/were, but I remember reading a follow up article (which I was able to find again) timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article3378877.ece which suggests that the tide is turning and stating to flow back the other way.
This makes sense, with a strong pound compared to a weak PLN and weaker overall economy it made sense for people to go out and make a start in life, the opening of the doors in regards to removing work restrictions means this was not surprising, nor is the trend for them to want to go home after a period of time as well.
Just in case anything I have said is inflammatory.. (cannot see what, but I know some people are a bit touchy), I am not British and have no qualms either way, I feel that the EU is working as designed and this was always going to be the case. The idea was to pool the strengths of Europe together.
