Wizz Air to start new routes between the UK and Poland

This may be of interest to those who travel between Warsaw and Bristol/Aberdeen especially.
From next May it will be possible to fly return from Bristol to Warsaw Chopin ( currently only Ryanair fly to Modlin ), and Birmingham to Poznań starting this December :-

poland.travel/en-gb/news/wizzair-new-routes-between-the-uk-and-poland-soon-to-be-available/

I've checked the Bristol - Warsaw connection out on the Wizz Air website and the flights are already loaded for next May.
But........the first flights are a pretty eye watering price ( £316 return without luggage ), which I think is pretty extortionate for a budget airline, plus arrival time in Warsaw is pretty grim at 1.35 am.

I can't see many takers at that price and it seems very at odds with the *from 119 PLN advertised on Chopin airport's news section of their website:-

lotnisko-chopina.pl/en/news/0/119/szczegoly.html

Although I suppose 'from' is the key word here.
Hopefully prices will come down in the future, and it's entirely possible they may reduce them before May.
Wizz Air already started return flights from Bristol to Katowice this last summer ( July ).

I'm sure it will be, thanks for sharing that information.

it seems very at odds with the *from 119 PLN advertised on Chopin airport's news section of their website:

Those seats are available.
Warsaw Chopin (WAW) → Bristol Airport (BRS) W6 1331 07/08/2016 19:45 - 21:25 1 adult Fare zł119
Bristol Airport (BRS) → Warsaw Chopin (WAW) W6 1332 14/08/2016 21:55 - 01:35 1 adult Fare zł119

Yes, that's how Wizz sell tickets. I'd be thinking that late February or early March will be a good time to look.

Aha, so a bit later on in the year then. Not a bad price at all for summer flights.

Very probably yes. It's entirely possible I will revisit Warsaw again so although the arrival time isn't great from Bristol, at least I have the option to fly to Chopin now :)

By the time Wizz start flying that route, the second hotel at the airport should be open, so you can land, get your bag, go upstairs, cross the road and immediately check in at one of the two aiport hotels.

Good idea!
The prices are higher now for the dates you mentioned, but there are other dates in August where they are £24.49 each way, which roughly equates to 119 zł.

I've never seen Ryanair flights that cheap even booking as far in advance as is possible, and of course you have to fly to Modlin too.

Wizzair and Ryanair are rarely as cheap as they advertise, especially between the UK and Poland, due to high demand for certain flights. Plus all the extras. Good they're going to Bristol and Aberdeen, nice to see some more services to northern England.

Agreed. The headline price may appear attractive but once you start adding luggage and taxes then I nearly always pay around £ 180 - £ 220 for return flights to Poland.

Not sure what you mean about "northern England" as I couldn't see any new flights from this area ??

Wizz are particularly bad for that. I find that it's often cheaper to fly LOT than Wizz, especially as with Wizz you need to pay for hand-luggage unless you take a tiny backpack which only holds enough for a couple of days at most.

Ryanair are now better at having flights for the price they claim (I'm going to Stansted next month for 161zl gross return), but as they insist on using Modlin you then have to add either 180zl for a return Uber trip or 40zl a night for parking or spend as long on the train&bus to the airport as you spend flying to the UK.

Last weekend I flew to Gatwick with Norwegian for £61 gross including taxes. If I'd wanted to take hold luggage it would have been £101. The flight was fine, very close to LOT quality. I'll be using them again when visiting friends in the south-east, and quite possibly the south-west too: car hire at Gatwick south is a breeze, much better than Heathrow, I saved more time with the car hire than it would take me to drive from Gatwick to Heathrow!

I've not flown with Wizz yet, but I've never paid that much for return flights to Poland, and I'm stuck with having to book at peak school holiday times!

especially as with Wizz you need to pay for hand-luggage unless you take a tiny backpack which only holds enough for a couple of days at most.

I did notice that when I was reading through the baggage section, must admit that's particularly bad. Although you do get 23 kg of hold luggage compared with Ryanair's paltry 15kg.

I suppose when I get round to booking with Wizz I'll find out what the hidden charges are. They were charging £14.50 each way for baggage when I looked, but no idea what they charge in admin fees etc

Anyway it's a welcome new route for me!

I've got to admit that I'll probably fly on that route myself sooner or later. Last time I looked at the Ryanair flights from Modlin to Bristol the cost of the taxis to and from Modlin made it cheaper to fly LOT to Heathrow. Something else to factor in is that car hire at Heathrow is quite a bit cheaper than at Bristol.

I wonder if the location of the UK airport could be a factor. London airports might be cheaper than say. Liverpool or Manchester

I'm not so sure it's the location of the airport that's a factor, rather when you book the flights maybe?
I booked a return flight to Poland from Bristol about a month ago for next Easter and it cost £117 including luggage.
I booked it early as I knew the flights would only go up in price. Obviously, unless you're very lucky, the later you book the more it will cost. Maybe you've just been unlucky at times you need to fly.

I very much doubt whether the 119 Zł fares on the new Wizz Bristol - Warsaw route will hang about for long at that price.
I checked earlier, and some of those stated prices have already gone up from yesterday.

Exactly, there aren't any, but it would be very nice to see more since that is where a lot of the demand is.
