I agree with CROW.. this is great opportunity for Poland and northern slavic countries as well...ukraine, belarus, czech, slovakia... at one point we were all one country so why not re-unite again... at least militarrily and economically... why not form our own union the EEU, the Eastern European Union - ukraine, czech, slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Etc. we would be a force to be reckoned with. DOWN WITH BRUSSELS, GO WARSAW

This has been long awaited, Poland is finally back on the right track after 100 years of wars, invasions and persecutions. RESTORE THE POLISH LITHUANIAN COMMONWEALTH AND RESTORE POLAND AS THE WORLD SUPERPOWER!!!

All these EU supporters are gonna feel stupid in a few years when the currency takes and all countries part of eu currency will go down.. Greece, Ireland, Spain, Portugal... they are all laden with debt and it will bring whole Euro value down.. and only power left standing will be POLISH ZLOTY

You do realise that the Zloty has more or less shadowed the Euro (and before that, the DM) since 1995 or so? If the Euro collapses, so will the Zloty. The pain in Europe was seen in the value of the Zloty - simply put, if there's a crisis in the Euro, people aren't going to hurry to put their money into a weak currency like the Zloty.

The zloty will never be EURO... Poles won't let that happen, we have too much pride in our country. Sorry to let you down.. but the truth hurts buddy.

We'll soon see how much patience Brussels has with Poland and the other non-Euro countries, especially once Latvia and Lithuania join. The EU has made it clear on numerous occasions that while Sweden's non compliance is tolerated because their citizens didn't get a vote on Euro membership - no such provision applies for the new EU countries.

But it's moot anyway - anyone who knows anything about forex knows that the PLN is pretty much linked to the fortunes of the Euro anyway.


The UK cannot be compared to Poland - the UK and Denmark have opt-outs from Euro membership.

Serbia is EU`s protectorate and under NATO occupation. On the other side, Poland is considered to be independent. But, it isn`t independent as we actually see.

Meeting of Polish and Ukrainian chiefs of general staff

Chief of General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces Gen. Hryhorii Pedchenko is on an official visit to Poland. During the Polish-Ukrainian bilateral talks, on June the 1st, the current progress on creation of a multinational Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade was assessed. The Polish side presented the process of professionalization and transformation of Polish Armed Forces. They also talked about the involvement of armed forces of both countries into many aspects of security of UEFA Euro 2012 tournament, including their plans for creation of a mutual system of airspace safety.

They also discussed cooperation at the meetings of the Visegrad Group, and they talked about international military exercises with participation of Ukraine Armed Forces.

Thank you for your excellent welcome of the Ukrainian delegation and for the openness with which we were able to review virtually all areas of our mutual military cooperation. I stress that there are no issues impeding the bilateral relations between Poland - our main partner - and Ukraine - said Lieutenant General Pedchenko. He noted that he appreciates the fact that he had been given a fair opportunity to talk with Polish politicians, particularly during the period of extensive reforms that we intend to conduct in accordance with European standards. Our main role - he added - is to provide a solid basis for future agreements, as it currently takes place during the work on formation of the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade.

Chief of General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces will also meet with Chief of the National Security Bureau Stanisław Koziej, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Defence Stanislaw Wziątek and Minister of National Defence Bogdan Klich. At the end of his trip to Poland he will pay a visit to the 3rd Mechanized Brigade in Lublin.

Deep cooperation among EU member states on defence remains highly sensitive, with governments reluctant to build joint units
In the last week meeting of EU defence ministers a question of doing more with less, in this period of economic crisis, was answered by "pooling and sharing" - including joint development and procurement of weapons and partial integration of European militaries.


But this did not work that well: Countries join their forces for six months and then they go their own separate ways.

i clearly see what would happen in time that is in front of us. i understand why Russia didn`t save Serbians from direct NATO attack in 1999. If Russia saved us Serbs, Poles wouldn`t understand. That way, on the long run, Russia actually wouldn`t save us but just prolong our agony and agony of Poles, too. So, Russia hesitated. Now, its up to Poles to saving itself, support us Serbs. Problem is that Poles first have to defeat their own fears, to defeat them or to die in silence giving up from itself. Problem is that Poles have to confront their so called friends. Are they capable for this, in this gambling for all or for nothing?

but, i am sure, in a less then 15 years, Poles and Serbs would be in the same alliance. If it would be NATO or EU, it would be our mutual end. But, if it may be Visegrad alliance, free from NATO/EU chains, maybe, just maybe, we have chance.

Oh, Visegrad Four representatives still meet, talk, pursue diplomatic tasks and cooperate in various forms but no significant event happened recently worthy to report here. On the other hand the calendar of cultural events funded by International Visegrad Fund is so exhaustive that it would deserve a separate topic. [The Fund is the only one active institution of V4 so far. It has an annual budget of EUR 5 million. It awards grants, scholarships and artist residencies]. So let's stick to V4 proper. Slovakian Presidency of V4 expires on June 30 and the baton will be passed on Czech Republic. This is a good time to look back and think about future directions. Yes, Balkans will be an important topics.

i have hope. You know, i live in a region where Slavs are under heavy pressure of Turkish and German neo-expansionism. All my hopes goes to Poland and New Commonwealth or to say- Visegrad Alliance

Would be nice to see visegrad 4 develop not only into military and security alliance, but maybe also an independant union or commonwealth allow free trade and free travel for citizens... I think this would benefit all countries involved and free them from economic dependance on EU and NATO. This should also be an economic partnershp is what i'm trying to say.
