What Poland can't do right

Well, big buissness opprotuinity for anyone who has an idea of how to make cheese then. Teach the Poles and profit! Besides money, you'll also get an eternal gratitude of the Polish people.

Honestly, while the oscypki made in Podhale out of the sheep milk are wonderful, especially if fried and eaten in the mountains with the snow all around you and after a long, hard day of walking/skiing; and our white "twarog" or a cottage cheese can also prove to be excellent, pretty much noone can manufacture and sell us a decent quality yellow cheese for sandwiches.

k the Greek have a monopoly on Feta already?

Feta is marvellous. But only the one from the village full of cream. You will lick your fingers if you taste it.We don't understand how foreigners get excited by the commercial quality sold in super markets.

That would be sheep cheese.

Actually both.

;)

By decent goat cheese I mean like French goat cheese yummm

Aha! Oui! Très bien!

xD

Seriously? So how much would a good recipe of yellow cheese be worth to you guys? (I swear I can smell some kind of opportunity here!)

Hey, I'm a sophisticated foreigner, so I actually know my Feta! I know a store owned by a Greek, and he imports it straight from Greece. (Not the cow milk variety either!) His daughter probably convinced me to buy it there.

;)

There are several kinds of feta.Anyway the best is the village one you get straight from the farmer. It is way different and has full taste.A commercial one with some flavour is Dodoni feta.

Slightly off-piste, but oscypki are quite easy to come by. They're from sheep milk, right?

Edit: sorry, just saw the top of the page...

They're only available in season - from May to October. And yes, sheep milk + up to 40% of cows milk.

that's how it should be, but the things you can get all-year-round outside the Zakopane region (and most of what you can get in Zakopane itself) is cow milk. Sheep milk is available for a couple of months only. If you want the real thing, it's best to stick to the certified producers. Although I must say I quite like the cow milk variety - I know it's blasphemy but it fries well :)

Edit: sorry, just saw the top of the page...

it's all right, the off-topic lounge is a nice place ;)

Nooooooooooo, don't send me to random!!!!

<* the men in white coats drag him away, screaming *>

... Damn, that revelation about the cow's milk is disappointing. Then again, I remember going for early morning runs when vacationing in Pieniny a few years back and there was nothing quite like the welcome of the babcia with the milk churn (milk still warm) at the bottom of the hill you'd just spent 45 minutes climbing all over. No way that came from a sheep. It was still great, though.

The Radom thread is nice too, and not too overcrowded (just considering the options...)

the babcia with the milk churn (milk still warm)

Oh, that's legendary stuff. Summer holidays at babcia's in the countryside and the mandatory warm milk, fresh from the cow. I don't think I could drink it now, though.

I have the same memory but it still grosses me out. My grandma would wake me up at dawn and would not let me go back to sleep until I drank a glass of body-temp milk. It smelled like cow **** (gnój)

Fish is fish right?? Or are in Poland other fishes??

Polish Pizza? Never tasted .. but I heard from my parents, in communism where a good Pizza, but it was very different from that one, we know. Nevertheless, I make good Pizza from an old Italian receipt and thats the best Pizza ever. =)

Polish beer is good, but I dont know if it is the best .. there are too many sorts ..

I would never date a Polish girl .. never ever! Mostly good looking "Polish girls" have roots in Ukraina, Russia or Romania .. typical Polish girls are not really good looking ..

Polish bread? I dont know, I can not remember well .. I was 2008 the last time there .. I thin Italian and German bread are the best.

Polish milk, never tasted. I prefer 0,1 % fat milk.

Scientists, programmers .. I am not intrested in **** like that.

Strong men .. yes. Pudzianowski was the greatest Strong Man ever. Poles have good sportsmen in martial arts or boxing etc. In 6-7 years Poland turns int o a great boxnation Szpilka, Proksa, Fonfara, Wach, Masternak, Laszczyk etc. etc. there are too many good prospects.

Polish immigrants? It depends on which one ...

Hairdressers are not so good! I go to my gay, German hairdresser with the cute Turkish trainee and the old owner with better style then most young people. Turkish hairdressers are btw the worst one!

I heard, Poland has got the best Hooligans .. but thats nothing to be proud of.

In what is Poland bad?? Girls, girls and girls. Organized criminality. Most Dodges, AUdis, Mercedes and other new eye cathcers in Germany are with Polish car signs and chemical drugs come from there. They are also famous for stealing luxury cars and jewelery robbery. Hooliganism, Racism, fanatic Catholism . Thats the bad sites of Poland .. but it is only a minority, except the girls, they are in most cases really bad people!

Where Poland fails big time is urban planning. What was built there in the last 20, or even 60 years is often mediocre at best. The Commies had awful Commie blocks, and in the last 20 years it looks like there are no rules at all anymore. People with bad taste but much money build absolutely tasteless crap and it looks like no one cares.

That's my impression too. I've just came back from a trip to Bratislava, and the difference between the Polish and Czech/Slovak countrysides is staggering. The amount of absolutely horrible houses in Poland is just... ugh.

Don't get me started on the way that those columns on the front of houses seem to be the "thing" at the minute.

Polish and Czech/Slovak countrysides is staggering.

Esp. due to the fact that rural architecture in former Czechoslovakia had developed differently (a lot more bricks and mortar, lot less wood), and had not been destroyed during WW2. I think as you go deeper into Slovakian territory, you might get a bit of the "Polska B" vibe (both as far as rickety wooden huts and ugly communist cube "villas" go), but they might have eliminated that since I last visited (ages ago).

Yes, either columns or turrets. Or both.

hmmmm.... columns are ok, I think. Because they resembled my great aunt's "dworek" perhaps? Only they were much much smaller...
