Thats ridiculous, what grounds did they give you for not allowing registration? Also are they aware that they are in violation of eu laws by not allowing this?
Been told today you can NOT reg an English car in Poland. Only if you have a Blue badge or work for the Ministry.
As noted on page one of this thread "It is theoretically possible to register a RHD car in Poland. You must apply to the Ministry of Transport for a special permit to have a right hand driven vehicle registered in Poland. The telephone number to the appropriate department within the Ministry (department of technical specifications) is: 022 630 12 52." The office in Lublin can say whatever they want but the Ministry make the decision.
If the Ministry knock you back, that will make things interesting. At the moment the EU are not willing to get involved because it is possible to register a RHD car in Poland. If it turns out that it is not possible, Poland could well find itself in a spot of bother.
I am English and I owned a RHD car while working in Germany for 9 years. On the Autobahn RHD is fine but when I drove in Poland on the A2 between the border and Nowy Tomasyl my RHD car was not good. You must overtake all the trucks that were on the motorway, you cant do this safely in a RHD car.
I now own a LHD car and I have no trouble driving it safely. I can swap from driving LHD or RHD and be safe at all times. Its very easy.
I understand why you need a RHD car and good luck with registering it. I just thought I would reply to those arguing that LHD is not as safe as a RHD.
We tried to call them. They more or less told us we have no hope in hell. I would complain if i had more time. But my MOT runs out in Jan and tax in Feb. So i need to take it back to the UK were i will sell it.
The price in £ is £3800. £1200 cheaper then other ones same age. I love the car, it drives amazing so petrol is good. 45mile to the gallon.

See if you can get something out of them in writing. If you can do that you'll have a very strong case for taking the Polish government to court and recovering the costs involved with returning the car to the UK.

That's to be expected - but the law did change on the 22nd September. They might try and cling to their old rules - but they legally cannot refuse the registration now.
Certainly try and do what Harry says - get something out of them in writing - or even just a letter refusing the registration and you should be in business.
They sent us something in writing saying it can be done. But it needs a Minister to sign it off and no-one will. That took them 4 weeks to send the letter.
They never will send anything in writing saying they can not do it. It's just over the phone. They are making it as slow as poss so you have to go back to the UK no matter what.
As we are English we will try to sort it out 3 months before. Thats enough time. But the Polish will put you off for over 6 months. So you need to TRY and reg your car in Poland asap, or no hope in hell.
My car is on Allgero for 18,000zlt. webuyanycar.com will give me £3200 for it. 16,000zlt. So it's a bargin IF YOU can reg it.

You may be right (or it may be that they just do not give a crap). I'm vaguely considering buying a banger next time I'm in UK, just so I can annoy the local government by registering it.
I would love to keep it. MOT, TAX and Insurance for ayear now is £700. 3500zlt is alot.
If i sell my car in the UK for a normal price and put the extra 3500zlt to another car i can get a 7 year old BMW 530 Kombi. (Or a Jaguar x-type 3.0 4x4)
I am English, live most of the time in Poland. I have owned LHD and RHD cars here. One factor you all seem to miss is the cost. A Rhd car is around 1/3rd of the cost secondhand plus the condition is far better as I find due to the appalling state of the roads here a car is finished after two years and around 20,000 miles Buy a RHD low miles UK car fit a camera on the left and a monitor on the dash (130 pounds) end of visibility problem. Visit Blighty once a year and get a test. It's a no brainer plus no points on your UK licence if you are daft enough to drive like a Polak

According to the latest information I have (from the local police station) - if you have a valid PESEL in Poland (remeber, no lying to them, they can check) - then you will be given points regardless of what your licence actually is, as the points are tied to your PESEL, not your licence.
Apparently they also have the power to force you to a re-test - but the DVLA in the UK says that they won't recognise a ban under the totting up procedure, so the licence is merely 'lost' to them and not revoked. I don't know what the legal situation is if someone has had their licence revoked in Poland, yet the licence is still valid in the UK - I suspect it'll be similar to the German situation where you'll be banned from Polish roads, but not others.
Having said this, you'd have to be an absolute idiot to get banned for going over 24 points in Poland.

Legally 12 months but nobody checks especially if you a travelling between the UK and PL regularly keep it as long as you like but make sure it has valid MOT, Tax and insurance.[i]

On 27 January the supreme administrative court ruled that RHD cars can not be registered in Poland. Lawyers for Grzegorz Dorobek, who was attempting to register his RHD Vauxhall Vectra, have said that they are considering taking the matter to the EU level.

I don't think theres any written information about the process but its worth just bringing your UK car here in GB plates, The law here WILL have to change soon so just hold fire and until it does.
Personally I wouldn't buy a car here as in general Poles can't be trusted and they repair cars which should have been crushed probably to the usual polish half arsed standard too. Theres no central database of cars which have been written off and they won't tell you if it has been damaged repaired.
Insurance is more expensive here too and the cost of cars is about 30% more than in the UK. Theres also a chance that they might not sell you cover as Polish organisations take great pleasure in making life difficult for non poles.
What car do you drive? I would seriously reccomend CIS as we pay around 350 per year on our winter car with eu breakdown cover and no time limit on driving abroad. That way if you need to make a claim or you break down you speak to an English person and with an English company. If you go home once a year ie xmas or something getting an MOT every 12 months is no major ballache

I know that this string started off quite serious and has relaxed into a humorous exchange, but I want to come in on a more serious note.
I heard that a Polish High Court judgement in January or February of this year, 2010, rejected the right of a complainant to register a RHD car in Poland in direct defiance of EU "law".
Now I have a dilemma. I see that most roads in Poland are still without dual carriage-ways and drivers here constantly take horrific risks overtaking. Under the circumstances, I understand why the High Court defends Poland's sovereign right to refuse to register RHD cars. If all the Poles currently working in the UK come home with RHD cars the death toll on Poland's roads will almost certainly increase sharply.
I also deeply distrust the idea of a Federal Europe pushing Poland (or any other less influential EU member-state) around, especially an EU under the powerful influence of the same multi-national corporations that control North American politics. I was positively thrilled to hear that the Polish Health Minister rejected the introduction of the untested H1N1 vaccine into Poland - the only Health Minister in the world to take such a stand against the big-pharma conspiracy.
Consequently, I'd be inclined to take sides with Poland on this issue BUT FOR THREE considerations:
1 I have a RHD car that I dearly love and now I live here I really want to register it
2 It really annoys me that "important people" like mayors and the like are considered to be beyond Polish law and can be treated as special cases. Can this be true? I've only heard of it here but from experience I can believe it.
3 I'm left-eyed, meaning that when reversing I find it extremely difficult to look over my right shoulder as in LHD cars.
Just try and register it and don't even mention that its RHD, theres someone on this forum who registered a RHD PT cruiser without any issue and they didn't even question it.
Failing that you will need to wait until Poland remember they are in the EU and not just being financially propped up by it and the law changes which it most defintely will have to.
There is another alternative (which I'm toying with the idea of doing myself): import your car from the UK, attempt to have it registered, get refused, have it converted to LHD, send the bill to the Polish government and then sue them when they refuse to pay.
