Poland pulls out of Eurovision contest 2013 amid concerns over the cost of the winner hosting the following years competition.

In the current climate, these are expenses to which Poland have decided they can ill afford to risk exposing themselves.Poland skipped last year's contest and has made the same decision again, citing financial pressures after its co-hosting of the European football championships this summer.

As if it was ever gonna happen. Closest they came was 2nd back in the 90s.

That's an excuse if ever there was one. The real reason is that they've realised they'll never get past the block voting from certain parts of Europe as well as the fact that they don't actually have any decent music.

The should pull out off that dreadful event forever.

It was something special back in the seventies, but now it's had it's day.

Haven't you noticed that many times for Eurovision contest were nominated groups/singers which are unknown in Poland?
Even the nice group/singers went there with very mediciore songs (e.g. Sistars)

What I heard is that E.Górniak actually won but was disqualified because she sung part of the song in English which was against the rules back then.

I'm glad Poland stopped to run in this cheesy contest. The viewers seems to be the same who likes "Klan" soap opera, that is middle age housewifes with they potbellied hubbies. Kind of Ferdek Kiepski types.

And no interesting music from none of the countries there... no wonder: Ferdek liked disco polo.

A few countries do that - perhaps because the real stars (who earn good money) don't want to be associated with the whole cheesiness of it.

I think Poland has made a pragmatic and sensible decision on Eurovision. Just wish the UK would do the same. Let's face it we could get Led Zep to reform and enter and we would still come last or thereabouts. Our only chance would be if we obtain voting rights for every island off our coast.... here is the verdict from the Isle of WIght jury

Well the Eurovision is a crock of sh1t, but they are introducing another scam mortgage grant in June that will be billed to the tax payer, rather than allowing the market to dictate prices. BROWN ENVELOPES. Austerity measure dictated by the crooks and bandits.

Why would Poland care about Eurovision when they have Sopot.

If you call the sort of music that's usually produced at the Eurovision contest "decent" then I'm glad we don't have anything "decent" enough.

Or rather, I'd be very glad if we didn't have it.

Anyway, I'm very glad they've pulled out of it.

From time to time they have some pretty good songs on there, whereas the Polish hit parade tends to favour moody ballads about frustration and lost love - if you want to se what I mean, go to any karaoke night!

I heard not long ago that the only reason the UK bothers to enter is because UK, France and Germany are locked into a very old contract to bankroll much of it.

A kind of Withney Huston-like song as you hear. It was Poland's debut in that contest - not bad for a debut.

Interesting information on wikipedia. According to an entry "Polska w Konkursie Piosenki Eurowizji", in time period of 1994-2011, Poland gave most points to:

1.Ukraine
2.Norway
3.Sweden

I don't see any political bonds to Norway or Sweden

Poland was given most points from following countries:
1.Germany
2.Austria
3.Lithuania

Again Austria is pretty suprising...
