Not what I'm saying at all. Which wants more from the other side? Poland or the US? The side that wants more is at a negotiating disadvantage and playing tough is not a wise strategy when you don't have much the other side wants...

Well the American way in foreign policy is to extract concessions first (with never quite guaranteed supposed benefits to come) and then never deliver those. I'm American but I have to admit my country is a terrible, terrible and completely unreliable ally.

Poland has been America's biтch (or late night booty call) in Europe for way too long. If it wants to put the relationship on ice then more power to her but that means no more promises of goodies (not that they would materialize unless the US wants to build a base in Poland which I don't imagine they do).

Not everyone in Polish politics is in favour of NATO stationing in Poland, some are in favour of it for fear of Russia but many would prefer national army to take its place instead of having to rely on Americans who are themselves invaders in many nations and their presence in Poland is dubious. Americans of course do not want to spend money on sending troops to Poland but they have interest in aggravating Russia and securing Poland as a watchdog land.

Hardly. Even PiS aren't so stupid as to think that a Polish army could defend itself in the event of genuine aggression by Russia.

The authors of the now ridiculed letter to Prime Minister of Poland blabber about Polish democracy failing among other things in the sphere of liberal freedom and law ha ha, let's look at American liberties: congressional representative is chosen before voters make a move; two main parties (republicans and democrats) sabotage on regular basis their competition; this one is the best - the government can twist the head of any court case by painting it as a state secret (that easy) (and American politicians dare to lecture Polish ruling party about court systems in Poland being undemocratic?)
