The number of millionaires in Poland is on the rise

The number of millionaires in Poland is on the rise, according to statistics released on International Women's Day

At present there are about 50,000 millionaires in Poland, and in several leading banks, including BPH, City Sales and Millennium, between 30 and 35 percent of them are women.

However, according to international consultancy firm Deloitte, that figure will reach 120,000 by 2020, when women will make up 40 percent of the millionaires in Poland.

Women had an equal place in the workforce during communism - they were effectively doing two jobs, at home and at work but had formal equality.

But with the fall of communism, Polish women were hit the hardest, in many ways, as child-care systems collapsed. The number of women in employment fell sharply, so that the gap between the number of men and women in work is now wider in Poland, for example, than in many EU countries.

But the wage gap in Poland between men and women is still the smallest in the EU.

Those Polish women do know how to make money.

I wondered why so many AmPol males have being returning to PL.

That's good to know. I wonder when the women will exceed the 50% level in Poland.

I guess it depends on the divorce rate with their foreign husbands lol

I still feel the data is not correct as you walk by and see the commercial properties in almost every building and calculate how much they must be worth and someone must own it,the adding shows in all Poland there are more people with money then one thinks.

Well, Pigsy, it might be more of a surprise if the number were falling, however this trend (more millionaires) just tends to grow rather than decrease. Not that being a millioaire is as special as it was in the days when a £ or $ went much further, and anybody with a half decent house without a mortgage in Warsaw is a zloty millionaire.

As the editor of the Daily Telegraph allegedly said a couple of years ago, their writers should stop using the word millionaire "since we're all millionaires now"...

Yeah I agree but after reading about people just surviving on 2500 Zees a month there are some doing very well as well.I feel Poland has more apportunities then states.States maybe good for unskilled workers who would go pump gas or do construction work etc since Poland would not pay them as much here,but if one is smart money could me made here too.

Oh and I was talking about millionaires in $ not in Zees.Lol maybe 25% decreased as the $ is up 25% almost in todays date.
Also there was a time one could live of there savings in bank but those days are long gone and dont think will be back for couple of decades atleast.

Well PIgsy, would you expect people with money to come om Polishforum and complain about the price cabbage... 40,000 Millionaires would just be over the 1% so it the same worldwide the vast weath is in the top 1%. As for foreigners coming to Poland to make big money, those days are gone it's the multi nationals that are turning up. At 3.9 zlotys to a $ Usd its eldorado. Also don't forget Poles are taxed on their worldwide just like the Americans, so the figure also includes wealthy foreigners who have taken a polish passport and poles outside of Poland.

Most of them made money from the "free" European Union funds.
I know a Polish teacher who faked doing a Polish language project for emigrants and ripped the EU funds :p
Now takes this example and think about those Poles who are working on big projects funded by EU!!! :)
Poles are very smart and good at it.

I used to be a millionaire in the early nineties like most of the old British contingent here. I spent far too long "working" at an university department, thinking I was one :)

I wonder when women well exceed the 50 percent level in construction work, as oil rig workers, as electrical powerline installers, roofers, welders, et al.
I wonder why some women only wonder about only certain jobs. Isn't wondering wonderful?

I think the real estate thing has fuelled the rise in millionaires plus the growing service sector. Mind you, a large Polish bank did a discreet survey of its richest 5% of customers and most had ordinary cars and rarely travelled abroad. The typical profile customer was a guy by a main road selling tynk or plastic roofing.

So out of interest how many million zlotys do you need to be considered very wealthy in Poland.

Whatever it is, don't inclue debt.
Most people assume that owning 5% of property allows claim over the bank's share.

I have been thinking the same.I know in States there is no limit.I have experimented to live on bare minimum in Poland and spent only350 pln for food,public transp,fone,cable,internet and flat spodzelnia fee(paid off little 40 sq m flat) for 2 weeks.But when coming to spend even 35000 pln will not be enough (expensive wino,flat at Zlota44 in warsaw,eating at MS restaurants,expensive cars etc)

Thats why I always wonder what is rich??
