Poland is ranked 29, and did very well in education with a ranking of 17, but lags behind in everything else.
US leads the world in Economy but lags in Education and Health Care (Amazingly US has 16/20 best universities in the world and unrivalled healthcare and medical technology for those who can afford).
Poland's arch rival Slovakia is ranked behind Poland at 31, followed by Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia. Meanwhile perennial bottom feeder Bulgaria and Romania closed the pecking order among EU countries ranking 38 and 39.
Among G7 countries US did exceptionally well, ahead of all European powerhouse, but behind Canada and Japan. Wannabe superpowers Russia and China are put in their rightful place ranking 51 and 56 respectively.

I wonder if such criteria as the divorce and suicide rate, percentage of dysfunctional families, violent-crime rate (not only murders), overall crime rate, degree of substance abuse and accident rate were considered. They also influence well-being and malaise.
i have read your previous thread about your great nine days experience in poland, and i'm in deep shock right now - why are you still wasting your time on this forum? i thought your nine days has ended, and you was all happy to left this country behind you... why do you came back? masochizm?
p.s. sorry for my malice, but i could not resist :)
Trust me it will get worse, they will be lucky to drop by 10 places.
Poland's summary: As a member of the EU (it joined in 2004), Poland is increasingly leaving its communist past behind--and for the better, it seems. As the top upper-middle-income country, Poland is pretty much a winner across the board. Its political environment is the best in its category and it's in the top 10 for economic dynamism, education, health, and quality of life. In August of 2010, Poland elected its fourth democratically chosen president; its large cities, such as Krakow and Warsaw, are becoming increasingly vibrant and wealthy.
i posted this Newsweek article last night in another thread. I wrote this:
Newsweek today: they rank "The Best Countries in the World" in categories such as quality of living, health care, diversity, etc., and Poland was ranked #1 as "The Best Upper-Middle Income Nation", stating:

It's nice to have some sort of a comparison, it gives you an idea whether your country is on the up or fading. It is human nature, keeping up with the Joneses and all that+ we all want to know how the neighbor is doing:)
regarding the list posted by the OP, i gotta say, although Finland does seem like a nice country, I'd have to take it off the #1 spot based on weather alone. that, and it seems like everyone in Finland has had a neighbor that killed himself.

Well I suppose it is doing it against the odds one might say. Though i guess it does have a few resources in terms of timber and a bit of space.
I used to live in Finland, and if my employer had offered to pay me (instead of the continual internship) I never would have left and come to Poland instead. For me, the weather is the icing of the cake. Bitterly cold in winter, cool in summer, achingly beautiful springs and autumns, and knowing that all the awful tourists who worship beaches, beer and skin cancer will never ever come to visit you. The place is idyllic.
That's not to say I don't like Poland for what it is, Polska polska hurra hurra, etc, before I get drowned in "if you like it so much..." comments.
Sokrates, many Rabbis happen to be principled and perceptive. I like what they have to say. They too are just victims of bullyboy tactics by the IDF. Youtube has new videos on the IDF brutalising them. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Israel is beautiful in parts and values top cuisine. It has a glorious history!
As for Finland, well, I liked Helsinki. It felt like home in some ways, given its port status. The people were nice and the city had a nice vibe, steeped in history too.
That's nothing new Bratwurst Boy, France has been slowing down for quite some time now, in almost everything, Poland surpassed France in education a few years back.

All rabbies abuse children and little bunnies, no such thing as a decent rabbi.
On a more serious note while Israel has its high spots i dont see how it got the place, all others i pretty much agree with except with US, the life of an average Joe in US is not much better than in Poland.
