The new edition of the guide features four important new distinctions. For the first time, a star has been awarded to a restaurant in Warsaw (Poland) – Atelier Amaro – where Michelin inspectors were
enchanted by the chef's preparation of local products, his innovative cooking style and original combinations of ingredients.

Excellent work by a genius and genuinely nice bloke!

Expect to pay about 400zl per head (assuming you stay off the wine list and instead have the recommended vodkas with each course). You do need to book a couple of weeks in advance. And yes, it is very much worth the money.

Yes. Twice. The two best meals of my life. I'm currently discussing with the Mrs via SMS exactly when we are going again.

"Amaro, who is of Polish and Italian descent, cut his teeth working for the legendary, now defunct Spanish restaurant El Bulli on the Costa Brava.

Seems there are now two restaurants with stars in Warsaw, which does put Poland bottom of the list country wise in the latest volume of the Major Cities of Europe Michelin Guide. There are some honourable mentions in Warsaw and Kraków but only two stars. Thoughts on why this might be? I'm a big fan of Polish food, but eating out in Poland can be very hit or miss and I think that doesn't do Poland any favours. A lot of restaurants in Kraków serving Polish food seem to lack imagination and stick rigidly to the tourist "Karczma" market and then the foreign restaurants are the ones trying to be imaginative but often lacking the funding and staff behind it.

That's as it should be. The prices need to be listed on the menu, not put up on the wall somewhere. Any good restaurant owner should know that.
