Johnny, before FDR's New Deal the WAS NO MIDDLE CLASS; you were either rich through inherited wealth or a robber baron, or you didn't have a pot to **** in, literally!
No one wants a return to those times. Look what happened in Germany pre-'33.
nonsense.... there was no social safety net, but that's not the same thing at all
The extreme inequality was a feature of the Gilded Age and exacerbated by high levels of immigration, the shutdown of immigration in the early 20s helped create the Great Compression (the time of least stratification/economic inequality in US history). I'm a child of the compression but the elites have drug the country back into a new gilded age, full of status vvhoring and high immigration.
Sanders (should he run and win in 2020) might end up rolling some of that back. Trump (another child of the compression) was elected to do that but hasn't been able with the power structures of both parties working against him.
Nothing was sacrificed to Svetovid. His temples, same as later Christian temples, only received gifts from peasantry, nobility and warrior class. Also, bread and different dishes from plants were prepared for rituals or for certain days. Its also same in Christianity.
who doesn't spit on Svetovid?
Beware what you speak. Care for your soul. Svetovid is not obsolete. He is spirit and God of nature. He is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. Good old guy. Nothing bad was done in his name. He may forgive you. Pray.
@Maf, face facts! Before Roosevelt there was zero safety net for sudden job loss or illness. FDR saved America!!! Trump, aided by the wake of Reaganism, wants to destroy what it took years to build up.
Before Roosevelt there was zero safety net for sudden job loss or illness
Not the same thing at all as saying there was no middle class.
Trump, aided by the wake of Reaganism
Reaganism is dead (Hillary was the Reaganist candidate in the last election, not Trump who ran on the kind of populist campaign that's inconceivable to a REaganite like Hillary). But Trump can't work against both parties to turn that horrible frankenstein back into the grave where it belongs.
The US is currently in a period of realignment from Neoliberalism to Populism the question is who can get ahead of the party elites (both parties) and make it happen.
What "fascist ideas", pray?? You don't like someone you automatically call them a faschist because he saved the US for the deserving many instead of those from his own privileged class??! The man had wisdom, vision, and compassion, qualities it appears laughable by today's ignoramuses who have little understanding of life, much less death!
Let's hope Ms.Merkel has the foresight to see the wrongness of what she's doing and be guided by more moderate supporters. About Morawiecki? Still haven't made up my mind about that guy:-)
For the time his ideas were good... I doubt he imagined that 60 70 years later labor force participation rates would fallen as much as they have. Back then, social security was viable as you had people working and paying taxed; you didn't have tens of millions of able bodied people refusing to get a job and living off welfare.
Now, social security is simply mathematically unsustainable. I doubt i'll get any social security once I hit 62 (if God allows me to live that long) which would be nice as that extra grand or two a month would go a lot further in Poland than US
You don't like someone you automatically call them a faschist
Not I, Benito Mussolini said 'he is one of us'. R send a mission to fascist Italy to see what elements of a fascist state introduced in Italy would work in the US.
Never the less he was a fascist. There is no doubt that he had seen Roosevelt as a one with fascist views. To what extend Roosevelt shared Mussolini's views can of course be debated but there is no doubt as to the fact that he shared enough of it to be viewed by an that archetypal fascist as a fascist in all but name.
Krakasz za duzo Why you so interested in Germany? You live there? Why aren't you looking at Poland as an example? Not enough gold for you? Don't you have treasures of your own to keep?
The man and others were arresred today. Problem solved. Those are all relarively small problems. In 50 years nobody will remember them. But people will remember that Germans were the moral beacon in Europe during this time. Our finest hour.
@Ironside, because Roosevelt took our Founding Fathers seriously and desired to use government for the purpose for which it existed, scarcely makes him a faschist!
That Upstate NY kosher chicken farmer who sued and won, accusing Roosevelt (along with the Supreme Court at the time, Justice Brandeis, I believe) of interfering with interstate commerce was in fact a Republican, and so hated Roosevelt from the start.
We needed FDR. How many more depressions, Hoovervilles etc. do you sincerely believe this country could tolerate before being forced down the road of true dictatorship?? Ever heard of Huey Long?
He declared war on all axis powers simultaneously after pearl harbor and a few hours after hitler declared war on the us. Most Americans didnt have much of a problem with hitler at the beginning. Going to war against Germany wasnt a popular idea due to the large german population.
Had the US taken the "duck and cover" strategy of certain American Firsters of the time, e.g. Norman Thomas and Charles Lindbergh etc., just imagine the dire straights in which the world would have found herself!
Boy are you a hypocrite!! America should be a policeman to the world.....only when it's convenient, such as Vietnam or the Gulf War ("No blood for oil!") but when the Jews were concerned, much of the planet summarily turned its back.
America should be a policeman to the world.....only when
Good question, it's impossible to point out a good result of american foreign meddling in the last 30 or so years... Iraq? Aghanistan? Libya? Shameful failures all.
That's why I call WWII the only "valid" aka "just" war within the past hundred-and-fifty or so years! Justifiable by anyone's measure, hence the title of Stephen Ambrose' "The Good Fight"!!
