Wider spread means precisely that. It isn't only about random bods and their opinions.
Just because you live in Poland and talk to Polish people there, doesn't mean you unferstand the general mood of the country better than me.
Remember that some of us here have lived in Poland longer than you have been alive. And move in circles that you wouldn't really describe as 'general public'. Poland isn't exactly like your country the UK - and even there not everything hits the media - much of the good stuff doesn't. If you want a list of people (including politicians of all main parties) who are discreet about their sexuality, you won't get one either here or there. Even in the world of entertainment or sport, someone who would be having a celebrity wedding back in the UK might well take very great care to stay out of the press here.
The most I would repeat (or anyone should repeat) are things already in the public domain - don't make the mistake of breaking a very good and useful rule in life, namely, not assuming that the people you're talking to is a stranger to the people you're talking about.
