Car theft in Warsaw (the most popular cars among car thieves in Poland)

Interesting article in "ŻW" today about car theft in Warsaw.
This is the top-10 of most popular cars (for car thieves) in Warsaw.
Numbers between brackets are the number of cars stolen in June.

The police has arrested until end of June 59 car thieves, which is more than during the whole of 2010.
Most cars are being stolen in Praga (168 until end of June). Safest is Ursus (12)
In the whole of Warsaw 1.114 cars were stolen (11% more as in the same period in 2010).

I have new Polish neighbours, they have a left hand drive VW, white van. They do look a bit rough, a builder bought the house a few years ago and turned it into bedsits, a couple and their young son now live in one of them, the father only wears vests, he walks down the street in his vest. As for the mattress they unloaded, I've seen better in front gardens on council estates. Do you think this VW van might be stolen?

I think this post of yours should be featured in your profile to remind us who you really are. Your Polish neighbours should have the right to see it too, as well as local police - in case of any racial hate crime in the area, they will know which door to knock.

I wondered how long this would take. I make a remark about one dodgy family from Poland moving into the street and suddenly it's racist. I would make the same remarks if they were English, Irish or outer Mongolian chavs. As much as it may hurt your senses, there are criminals in Poland and Polish criminals coming to the UK. If you saw the people who have moved into this house, you would have your doubts about them too. I make a comment about one group of Poles and it's suddenly "ooh she's racist towards all Poles" I'm sure not all Polish families have broken disused fridges stuck in the front garden making the street look like a tip, or pile up empty beer and vodka bottles and used cigarette ends besides the rusting kitchen appliances, but this family does. But it would appear that neither me nor my neighbours are allowed to complain about this family, because they are Polish and that makes us racist. I bet their neighbours in Poland were glad to see them move and I bet they had doubts about where he got the van from as well.

I would have thought Toyota to make it first on the list, seeing half of Warsaw driving in a Yaris...

I know there are "professional, steal to order" specialists in Canada. They are given a Make / Model to go and find for a fee. They are either exported to foreign lands, or stripped for parts. Typically they are high end cars. The smaller econo cars don't get the same preferential treatment. I am sure it is the same in PL. Target a car, jack it and send it off to Bialorus (or further afield) for a profit.

You forgot to add to your description that they are carrying knives and eating swans.

As I've not seen them carry knives or eat swans, I cannot say that can I? i can only comment on what I have seen from this one small group of individuals

I do not rely solely on insurance, my car is equipped with several alarm systems; insurance companiesare are too easy to wrest from their commitments and never pay market value and the alarms that I set up give me a greater sense of security.

Hmm, I read some statistics some time ago, and the most popular amongs thieves was the VW Passat. Also the FIAT has interestingly low position.

Lets go for the logical reason first, Honda Civics and Honda accords are the number one stolen car,as the parts are interchangeable,for practical purposes, identical. They are made to specifications that ensure that they are so nearly identical.

Maybe it is because in recent years Brits have been visiting & moving to Poland more.

Britain has a higher car theft rate than Poland from what I have read.

And 'read' is all, since you are talking about a country you have never even bothered to visit (& probably wouldn't like if you did) and a nation you are not part of.
