Some people list Schengen and free flow of capital as EU boons, but countries are free to approve visaless travel, capital free flow and free-trade ageeements without the existence of any cumbersome structure like the EU. The Junckers, Schultzes and similar have been made obsolete by events. Poland is also mulling a proposal to replace the EC with the European Council. Something to think about.

Merkel was speaking in the German parliament today, and she stated the obvious - that the UK cannot have access to the single market but restrict free movement, ( as that goes against the four tenents of freedoms of people, goods, services and capital). Quite clearly Boris is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he can deny Poles entry to the UK.

So, the Conservatives will get Theresa May in and strike a deal with the EU. If that happens, and it surely will, then it's panic over, but the two fingers to Farage and the rest of the racists:)

People don't especially want to move to Scotland but there are tens of millions in Africa and the middle east and the Indian sub-continent who would like to live in England.... England is already the most crowded country in Europe. Does anybody seriously want to see the population of England creep over 100 million? 200 million?

Would Scotland agree to British style border controls? Would Scots travelling south want to exchange their euros for sterling?

You really don't get it, do you? 60 percent of the Scots, according to a poll this morning, are hopping mad, and threatening to impose a whisky and haggis export ban.

But seriously, this is a great threat to Union, and a poorer UK means a much poorer Poland, as you will know when you compare the relatively large amounts of income sent back to Poland with what Poles can earn at home for driving the number 601 bus.

I thought they were threatening to _lift_ the existing haggis export ban and were going to start sending tons of it to England....
