Poland back to reality after Sunday ?

I think that after Sunday - if Iceland will not be the big spoiler -, the country will wake up from this mass psychosis.
- Yes L.K. was as a person a very decent human being. Not tainted by corruption. Not tainted by anti-Semitism. An honest guy.
And his wife even more so. I think the best compliment for her was when that rat Rydzyk compared her to a cesspit. May he burn in hell forever.

But at the same time he was a very bad president. Not the president of all Poles but only a support of the evil genius JK.

- The country will soon realize when the current paranoia has ceded - LK will not be declared a saint - that PIS will use Smoleńsk as a weapon forever

- It has been an overexposure the last week and I think it has to stop slowly. Of course PIS exploits this to a maximum degree, they had never any shame. But how long a national mourning can go on? Face the facts.

Life goes on.

Most Poles I've spoken with wouldn't smell a dead rat if it was hanging from their nose. Investigators are in over their head, and everyone else has their head stuck in the sand. Slavish Putler lovers, who prefer to distract themselves with such petty matters as where Kaczynski will be laid to rest. Ahhhh, ignorance is bliss!

His death educated people around the globe about Katyn and maybe just for this alone, he deserves Wawel. If anything, this is his greatest accomplishment, unfortunately in death.

The claim that he kept Poland divided..well...no president in ANY country satisfies everybody. Quite normal. He was the best he could be, nobody can say that he was corrupted and ready to kiss a** of anybody who decided to throw a bone his way.

Will there be a fight for power after people wipe dry their eyes and noses after the funeral? You betcha!

You will see Tusk clawing his way to the presidency. President has more power than prime minister, since clearly Tusk was getting nowhere while Kaczynski was alive.

He should be buried in Warsaw, and his lasting legacy be that he made Katyn known worldwide. His life was here, not in Krakow.

Heroes? Regardless of the cause of the crash, it was a plane crash.

I'll be glad when we're allowed some more colour in the media, to be honest, I personally feel that the constant repetition just desensitises people.

Maybe like less bewailing and more investigation updates. That would be a good start.
Here's an interesting link relating to that, I wonder if it's on the news in Poland:

you know, i don't see that to tell you the truth.. the 70th anniversary of katyn killings was barely mentioned in the print or news.. most people on the internet discussed the plain crash but katyn didn't really surface as a topic.. in a way, the crash overshadowed the remembrance which really sucks, imho.

That's odd; we've had a lot of print coverage on it here, not so much televised though. I guess it depends on where you are.

Not the president of all Poles

No he was not and he is not. He was elected by a small majority. Without the Smoleńsk tragedy he would have been soundly defeated in the elections.

So who was the president of the large minority? Putin? Obama?

I don't know which anti-Catholic satanic sect you belong to, but it takes time to become a saint, due to needing miracles and proof.

BTW, he is The Venerable John Paul the Great. Get it right, demon.

Maybe because he is not? There are many groups worldwide who wouldn't call JP2 exactly great or holy. But besides that, it indeed takes some time to be declared holy.

Not yet.

As of last December.

catholicnewsagency.com/news/john_paul_ii_declared_venerable_moves_one_step_closer_to_sainthood/ - John Paul II declared Venerable, moves one step closer to sainthood

Went today for a walk in Warsaw Old Town. Cobalt-blue sky...sunshine... People enjoying the first real warm spring weekend... strolling...
Life is returning to the country. Enough of this artificially-prolonged time of national mourning.
I see this also between colleagues and friends. They get weary of yet another day of organised mourning. Of yet another day of soulless TV transmission.

Of yet another day of soulless TV transmission.

I actually watched it, mostly, cos this is history in the making. However, the lovely sunshine has been very welcome as I did a load of work at home, and people walking past seemed much more relaxed even as the air raid sirens were blaring again.

Enough of this artificially-prolonged time of national mourning.

Little wonder you don't understand so much...

Ahhhh, ignorance is bliss!

I prefer it to living in paranoia :-)

You will see Tusk clawing his way to the presidency.

You will see he won't. It is a prime minister, who rules the country (backed by parliamentary majority of course), while a president may only obstruct things, having no real power.

I feel very sorry for Marta Kaczyńska. And even more so for her daughter. She lost her parents in such a dreadful accident. In no time her evil uncle JK will also use her in the coming elections.

By the way - as I remember - she got divorced from a quintessential PIS guy (deftly silenced by all Polish media - even the normal ones) and got married again to a left-wing guy?

Actually SLD I think... ?
