Two gay men who said they faced persecution in their home countries have the right to asylum in the UK, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The panel of judges said it had agreed "unanimously" to allow the appeals from the men, from Cameroon and Iran.

After the PO led surrender to a federalist EU this will become a daily reality in Poland- the vaunted Social Chapter opt-out clauses will soon disappear.

Should people be able to claim asylum simply because they are gay?

More madness.

I like this bit

The court was made up of ten judges including one from Britain and others from Poland, Malta, Bosnia, Iceland, Albania, Moldova, Slovakia, Finland and Montenegro.

If the likely outcome on returning to their own country is death, then yes. It's that simple.

Why the manufactured sense of alarm? It's not as if their breeding habits mean that after two generations they'll outnumber the indigenous population, now, is it?

Or are they claiming asylum because they will be persecuted in their home country? What's the difference from being killed or abused because you are gay from being killed or abused because you choose to practice another religion or come from a different tribe?

From Iran, yes (as long as the current government and legal system is in place - if they join the 21st century, then we'll see....)

From Cameroon, I don't know, but most sub-saharan African countries are also pretty oppressive to gay people (see recent Malawi case).

And ... in such cases their asylum should be revoked upon the first sign an individual is playing gay to get asylum (no "Oh I used to be gay but now I'm cured" if they get over the gay they can get back to where they came from).

playing gay to get asylum

The trump card previously was certain countries that were considered too dangerous, now they will be playing the gay card.

I remember a story that some nice lady from one of African countries applied for the asylum in the UK on the humanitarian grounds. She is suffered from AIDS and the NHS services may extend her life. I don't recall how it's end up.

yes they need to be able to claim asylum no matter who they are as long as any harm can come to them in their country.

No, of course not.

In general, anyone who lives in Asia or Africa and who feels threated can flee to a neighbouring country. No need to go to Europe. Europe is for Europeans, not for Africans and Asians.

If they choose for Europe it's for reasons that have nothing to do with safety only (money, women, easiness of life), so they should all be denied asylum and be send back to their own country. No exceptions.

Even people who welcome non-Europeans to Europe should think twice. If they allow gays just for being gay, then a whole lot of fake "gays" can be expected because it will be a very easy way to get entrance to Europe.

I wonder how many straight asylum seekers now live in Europe after lying that they are gay.

Ok so let's say I'm a none EC 60 year old man who likes having relations with 16 year old girls. Nothing illegal if 'consensual'

But I may well face the threat of death when the girls family members find out.

Therefore I'm a perfect acceptable asylum seeker in your eyes...

No, because the threat comes from a finite set of private individuals who would be acting against the laws of the country they're in.

Laws that make homosexuality a punishable crime are a different matter entirely.

Is there potential for abuse of granting asylum to homosexuals from countries where it's illegal? Yes, there's potential for abuse in any kind of situation regarding asylum, that's no reason to vicariously support barbaric legal systems like those of Iran or much of Sub-Saharan Africa.
