dude....that.....kinda......does sound bad

Yeah I know but I didnt intend big time offence.

Pastafarians

These guys really stick together, I'm happy enough to let them do their thing.

FSM

A Catholic FSM or a Protestant FSM? We need to be told, I'm sure there is a massive difference between the two involving big words like marmalade and sausage.

I hate discussions about any religions at all. They never change anything

Ever since Jesus was supposed to exist the various loonies have been arguing about what he actually said , and what he meant by it....

Better they argue among themselves , than bothering the rest of us , or little boys....

The original and one and only FSM has meat balls and bologne sauce! Only some infidels :D say that it is made of penne and arrabiata. That's blasphemy.

Wolniewicz is not a clergyman but a secular philospher.

You're mixing Wolniewiczes. The philosopher is Boguslaw, your post mentions

Bohdan

. He is a Catholic priest. Boguslaw Wolniewicz is an atheist.

On topic:

Roman Catholic Church isn't Christian, it's the religion of Ancient Rome founded by Emperor Constantine.

yippee !!!!!! let restore The Roman Empire !!!!
my Latin is a bit rusty ,,no matter !:D

atheism shouldn't be condemned, it is after all a personal choice.

Yeah! It is personal choice, but when atheists are emulating CC to condemn the Church it is a different cup of tea! Anyway I think they are after some funds - means after monies !

Meaning that their are a false atheist they believe in mammon or whatever cash is called !

As for the promotion of gay rights, I am fully in support for greater rights for homosexuals in Poland, it is high time society stopped discriminating against gays,

What do you mean ? I find your words meaningless!

homosexuality is not a personal choice.

It well may be , but the thread topic is atheist and loonies - why you adding gays here beats me!?

I am making pasta with smoked salmon and cream sauce for Trzech Kroli . No potatoes.

And this is the best and most wise comment as far. But can you tell us what kind of pasta? I knew you are into FSM! ;)

Barney and Olaf - thanks for the witty comments;).

That's my job here;)

BTW: Did you know there were actually four kings? And that they were not kings at all? And their names were not as we know them today - around 300 AD they were started to be called as they are till now. I read it in Krakow Post...

Christians = bad.
Muslims = good.

FSM suporters = even better

Yeah! It is personal choice, but when atheists are emulating CC to condemn the Church it is a different cup of tea!

A different cup of tea indeed, given that the CC in Poland has millions of adherents, two tv stations and a real estate portfolio second only to the government, and atheists (organised ones anyway) have a website and a declaration signed by fewewr than 20000 people.

However Polonius3 hates and fears them, so it must be alright.

I think they are after some funds - means after monies !
Meaning that their are a false atheist they believe in mammon or whatever cash is called !

Catholics criticising atheists for being 'after some funds' is very much the pot calling the kettle black.

The fundamental difference is that organised atheists believe in a state where all are free to either live by the rules of a religion or not, according to preference and none are forced to abide by the tenets of someone else's religion. The RCC in Poland believes in a state whose laws are based on Catholic beliefs and prejudices and that people who refuse to abide by those prejudices are punished.

Who cares? They are starving for attention, I would ignore or laugh at them!

very funny, you know the difference do you ?they organize with monies is mind, and for CC is only byproduct !

I suppose that it may look that way from your point of view!

The fact they don't have any suggests this is nonsense.

, and for CC is only byproduct !

Hahahahaha - when did you last go to mass?

I suppose that it may look that way from your point of view!

From anybody's really, unless they're an advocate of theocratic government!

I would say other way around considering who gather there. You on the other hand have a right to your opinion.

Hahahahaha - when did you last go to mass?

When did you go to mass? In Poland giving money is voluntary!Ah, you know that, why ask then?

From anybody's really, unless they're an advocate of theocratic government!

I disagree, as I'm not an advocate of theocratic government but I oppose chaos and I'm for consistency in organization of a state. I mean inner consistency, and respect for certain values !

I laws build on basis of one set of value's, hardly make our hypothetical state - theocratic !

Roman Catholic Church isn't Christian, it's the religion of Ancient Rome founded by Emperor Constantine. That's why there was a Protestant Reformation. Read it's history.

Reading, it seems, is not enough to some.
Catholicism is not a religion of ancient Rome, but a religion that was legalized in ancient Rome, indeed by Constantine. He did not create it. The Roman Catholic Church (with emphasis on the Catholic) began at least about 150 years before Constantine was born.

RC Church is THE Christian Church, and all others are mostly offshoots growing out of it as de facto branches, even though, mistakenly, they consider themselves as completely separate. The RC is the base for their various interpretations of the scripture.

And no, the Protestant Reformation did not happen because Constantine allegedly founded it or because allegedly it was the Religion of Ancient Rome. I see no references in the RC doctrine to personalities such as Jupiter, Minerva, Mars, Apollo, Diana or Vesta. These were some of the Ancient Rome's deities.

Martin Luther did not fight the RC doctrine as such. He fought against the corruption within the Church's hierarchy, although some theological basics come to the fore eventually. Some of the Protestant movements had actually little to nothing to do with the Catholic dogma at all so it was replaced with other dogmas for reasons very much Earthly. One of the most glaring examples was one Henry VIII, formerly The Defender of the (Catholic) Faith.

So yeah, read "it's" history. I mean really read about it. It's fascinating.

For the record, church attendance in Poland (though very hard to get accurate published statistics) seems to be falling.

Jonni, I attend church in Warsaw most weeks and i do not see attendance falling, quite the opposite - standing room only.

Christians...throw em to the lions...

You can't have it both ways wildrover - come across as the all giving liberal do gooder, then make comments like the one above.

Christianity is principally about being nice to your neighbor. Roman Catholic Church isn't Christian, it's the religion of Ancient Rome founded by Emperor Constantine. That's why there was a Protestant Reformation. Read it's history.

Here we go again, with that old chestnut.

I disagree with you, atheism shouldn't be condemned, it is after all a personal choice.

So is the personal choice of faith.

As for the promotion of gay rights, I am fully in support for greater rights for homosexuals in Poland, it is high time society stopped discriminating against gays, homosexuality is not a personal choice.

From what I see on the streets in Poland, homosexuals are open and accepted. Homosexuality is a personal choice and lifestyle, that is why so many people have decided to come out.

They were Magi which means they were Zoroastrians. It seems that the newer moralistic faith needed its messianic claims confirmed by the representatives of an older one.

Who?

In Poland giving money is voluntary

Voluntary. Yes. Right. An interesting idea.

I'm for consistency in organization of a state. I mean inner consistency, and respect for certain values !
I laws build on basis of one set of value's, hardly make our hypothetical state - theocratic !

Me too - and of course the big question is whether or not the laws of a secular state should be informed by a particular religion - a small point for me, a big point for someone wanting to end a pregnancy but unable to travel outside their own country.

Jonni, I attend church in Warsaw most weeks and i do not see attendance falling, quite the opposite - standing room only.

The church has complained about falling attendances in Warsaw - the Ursynow megaparish has the lowest per capita attendance in Poland. Interestingly it's probably among the best educated in Poland.

They were Magi which means they were Zoroastrians. It seems that the newer moralistic faith needed its messianic claims confirmed by the representatives of an older one.

They were probably Zoroastrian (but maybe Buddhist) and that passage from the gospels was written at a time when they were starting to evangelise all around the middle east - including among Zoroastrians and allied groups.

Who?

some bad people ...

Voluntary. Yes.

Well, yes !

a big point for someone wanting to end a pregnancy but unable to travel outside their own country.

What they say about economy, you know the rules, either swim or become a bum!
Anyway, is not as if pregnancy was some kind of disease.

Magi

magoi is ther exact term, meaning 'the wise-@ss who travels guided by analog satnav' - meaning the star.

They were probably Zoroastrian (but maybe Buddhist)

- I guess we cannot completly exclude FSM followers, huh?

Ursynow, is well known as Flat land, there are so many flats that have been bought for investment and stand unoccupied. There are also many foreigners living there because it is cheap in comparison to other areas of Warsaw. If you go to the more traditional areas of Warsaw or the Stare Miasto on a Sunday it is standing room only. Ursynow best educated area in Poland, as it is an area, most first time buyers bought because it was cheap 4-10 years ago. First time buyers being ex grads, maybe you are correct. We will be able to say the same about parts of Praga like Brodno, the new area for first time buyers in 5 years.

If it's only a byproduct, how can you explain the marble floors in my local (post 1989) church? Why didn't the money go to feed hungry children? Why did the Church beg for money from old people?

Same story here. I'm meeting more and more young people who don't necessarily disbelieve, but the attitude of the Catholic Church in Poland has turned them away.

I was informed every church built after 1970 had a nuclear fall out shelter, probably more money than the marble floor. Marble floors makes sense it is cost effective over the long term.

Wildrover, there are people of all faiths and atheists that do things to help others.
But when you promote yourself as a charitable person that has spent much time, in his pursuit to help others less fortunate than yourself.

Making a comment: "Throw Christians to the lions" its either a bit monty python or not very well thought through...

One of the people who came on our aid trips was a Christian...he made the trip a nighmare for everyone on it , stole money meant for the children , and later helped himself to the contents of my house while i was in Poland....

He still says grace before every meal though , and goes to church every sunday...

I would love to send him to meet his god...

OK, so you met a Christian who happens to be a jerk.
Chances are you also heard abut another Christian, known a Mother Teresa. And yet you chose to use the jerk as a representative of the what Christians stand for.

Why not someone who can easily be considered a good person?
Are you prejudiced?

OK, so you met a Christian who happens to be a jerk.

As were all the Christians i met...

I met lots of great people in my life , none of them claimed to be Christians , although some of them may have been...The people who i met who made a point of shoving their Christianity in my face , were also among the people who , if i were stuck on a desert island with them and a pig , i would eat them , and keep the pig for company...

The ones who like to get you to say grace when they invite you for a meal , and go on about God all the time were the kind of people who i would describe as social lepers , the kind of people who would join the church , because nobody else would want them...

These people used Christanity the same way a cripple uses a stick...

I have no doubt there are some good people who are Christians , its just that i ain,t met them... Anyone who makes a point of telling me they are a Christian has already wound me up the wrong way , Religion should be a personal thing , in the same way as your sexuality is.... I have nothing whatsoever against gay people , but anyone who came up to me and said HI , i,m Paul , and i,m gay , would not impress me...

I have been a biker all my life , i think its a great lifestyle , but do i go around knocking on doors trying to persuade you to be a biker , no , you know where the bike clubs are , if you wanna join we will make you welcome , but nobody will try to talk you into it... Whats with all these Christians , Mormons and other assorted doormat vermin that come round telling me how great their god is ,and wanting me to join them..?? I know where your dam church is , if i want to join i will come to you...!!!

rant over...
