Maybe they will put a polish sign instead to show that Oswiecim camp was polish.
The "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign theft from Oswiecim, Poland
Have you seen this?
Quote:
"Avner Shalev, director of Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, said the theft "constitutes a true declaration of war".

the method of transport, all had to be planned with precision as capture would mean prison.
Precision? One end was unscrewed the other end was just ripped away. It was done fairly quick. A prank.. a daring one.. but just a prank. Now Poland has to listen to bullsh.t from Israel for two or three weeks.

A strange story. What would someone do with it and why would they want it?
The Polish Government took the sign because government workers are so lazy, and this will be a reminder for them...Put it up in front of some Bureau.
Bratwurst Boy
It's a serious incident, but still I find the reactions coming from Israel quite a bit over the top, I must admit.

Just crass! :(
It isn't Polands nor anybody elses fault...

Remember this Norway offers aid for Auschwitz upkeep about Poland basically left to fit the bill for Auschwitz
Personally i was always amazed at the fact that they did'nt charge for entry, its a donation system. As it should be, did Poland have an agreement or grant in place for this as i cant imagine them not taking revenue from a international attraction like that.
I really hope Poland doesnt profit from the camp. As i said before a Golem for the theives..

Na Zdrowie!

Yeah...."Kurwa Na Zdrowie"...sure...
The information the police and representatives of the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau that the theft was planned.
Sorry for my translation but they are basically saying it was planned.
I really hope Poland doesnt profit from the camp.
Well that is of course debatable. When I first came to Poland 8 years ago, it was Poland's biggest tourist destination, flights, hotels, restaurants etc... all made money of the tourists.
But it being free for visitors means the maintenance money comes from somewhere else.
it is all on that thread about Norway donating, I can't remember off hand.

They have another one that they used when this one was begin restored or repaired.
I didn't think about that. They can replace it with a replica. They should have had the replica on it in the first place, maybe?
It seems that the perpetrators had to have a ladder with him. Climb the gate is difficult to unscrew the screws in such a cold too easy. Have to be two or three people - he adds. However, it is too early to say that someone from the museum staff can assist the thieves - said officers.
camera aimed at the same gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" is not recorded anywhere. - There is only online on the Internet - said, "Rom" Inspector Smith.
They can replace it with a replica.
They have already, while they keep looking.

Wouldn't it be something if they did, in fact, forget to remove the replica and the people who stole it think they have the real thing when it isn't?

115 thousand PLN
What's that in Euros?
PLN, Zloty, Polish money.
Although that figure is just from the Police, the security company and the museum, so I imagine it will rise substantially very soon.

Scrappy, are you sure it's a prank?
Are you saying that pre 20'th century wars are what a FOOTNOTE? Thats one of the silliest things ever written on here.
Yea, they become a footnote. Ask someone about the Thirty Years' War and see what kind of response you get.

By now it's prolly been smuggled out of Poland and is who knows where? Could even be on another continent. All they had to do was put it in a box and ship it.

I don't understand you?

The First Reich: The Holy Roman Empire (800/962 - 1806)
The Second Reich: The German Empire (1871 - 1918)
The Third Reich: Nazi Germany (1933 - 1945)

This type of thing makes me think that Neo-Nazis want a forth Reich.
Again I wish to remind everyone this is purely speculative and just my opinion.
I doubt if it was a Polish commissioned thieft, if it was planned but no doubt there will be a lot of Polish hate propaganda in the up and coming weeks.
The sooner the thieves are caught the better as this is one of those frustrating 'Political' mud throwing sensationalist pieces of news.
By now it's prolly been smuggled out of Poland and is who knows where? Could even be on another continent. All they had to do was put it in a box and ship it.
I would imagine so as the hunt continues and the population of Poland wants it returned.
But if it were just some stupid people, well then they should be caught soon enough or they'll leave it somewhere for the police to take it back, I would not like to be them right now.
They catch a lot of fine art thieves at the sale end of things, perhaps these guys will make their mistake there, if they do not already have a buyer. Again all this is pure speculation.
I don't understand you?
He wanted to know the exchange rate EUR/Zloty.
Ah, yes, I misread, I thought he wrote
My bad, I should have known BB is too bright for that.
Today
1 Polish zloty = 0.2382 Euros according to Google, so 115000 PLN reward is about 27393 Euros.

The worst thing that could happen, they take it, ship it someplace, and it goes into storage. It would be harder to find it that way.

Yeah there ya' go.. probably not a lot of money for security cameras either.
Probably Polish dudes getting a little vodka in them. However, I think it's in the news a lot in Poland of Israeli school kids going on school trips there and wiping feces all over hotel rooms basically acting the fool while they're in the country. Maybe this is retaliation.. who knows?
