Modlin - 35 km north of Warsaw.
Allegedly, there's going to be a rail connection too.

Interesting to see that they have yet again put the completion date back; last time I looked it was going to be open in 2011. From memory, the original completion date was 2005! As for the rail connection, given that the 2km spur connection Warsaw airport still isn't ready despite being planned for six years, I don't fancy the chances of the 5km spur being built to Modlin airport any time soon.

I'm sick of budget airlines. It took us longer to travel from central London to Stanstead Airport than fly to Poland.

My brother came to Warsaw last weekend, Wizzair from Eindhoven. No complaints at all. OK he had to pay 15 EUR for the luggage, but could take 32 kilos. Good deal.

The inflight entertainment on the return flight was also OK - Straż Granicza arrested on the plane a dead-drunk Dutch "football fan" with 3.0 in his blood :)))

We don't have money for trains and roads because we are building sport stadiums. Give'em games! Just some gee whiz info: In 1938, the Lux Torpeda train took 3 hours from Warsaw to Gdańsk...now only 6 and the Warsaw train station was one of the most modern in Europe. Now, well, you've seen it. :)

Serves you right for using the Easybus, then!

The last time I used Stanstead, it took about 40 minutes to get into London on the train. Whereas it takes over 2.5 hours to fly to Poland.

Don't blame the airlines because you're a tight-fisted whingeing Aussie!

Yet people on here think that Poland is fit to rub shoulders with the world's superpowers. pmsl. :D

looks like Ryanair are quite interested in using Modlin as a new base, due date for the airport opening is now June 2012.

That means there are now two reasons for not using Modlin airport.

yes it's not going to be easy to get to from Warsaw (particularly at rush hour) until there's a rail connection. Also arriving on a Sunday evening at Modlin and trying to get into Warsaw by bus/car would be a nightmare with the returning traffic from the weekend, the traffic can be backed up to Lomianki or further on holidays.

Then don't fly with them. Book with BA instead. A very stupid comment.

" Then don't fly with them. Book with BA instead."
Or LOT, both are very acceptable (I prefer BA but only because of the whiskey shop in the terminal they use).

But please don't use words like 'stupid' to describe posts, it really doesn't aid discussion.

It's factual though. I understand the problems associated with budget airlines and they fly from airports outside the city centre and charge for luggage but this is because they are so much cheaper. It infuriates me. MOdlin will soon have easyjet BMI etc. flying back to the UK. I flew to Warsaw with Easyjet, BMI Baby and Wizzair but only Wizzair fly since Etuida shut.

and they fly from airports outside the city centre

But...they don't in Poland, usually.

Lodz airport is something like 4.5km from the centre, Poznan is about 7km.

Yes, but it will still take two hours to get to during rush hour, if you're lucky.
