Madonna to be discussed at Polish exorcists meeting

Jesus H Christ on a bike. Do these people really have nothing better to do?

Long the scourge of the Catholic Church, Madonna has often triggered Christian ire, once going through a mock crucifixion during one her stage shows.
Now her music and shows will come under the scrutiny of priests trained in the art of defeating demons, treating satanic possession and looking for the devil in a section of the conference dedicated to finding evil in popular culture.
"Part of the conference is dedicated to the hidden subliminal message in communication, and the choice of this subject was inspired by the woman who dares to call herself Madonna," said Father Andrzej Grefkowic, an exorcist and one of the organisers of the conference. "We've been worried about her concerts."
Although popular in Poland, Madonna has faced frequent protests by conservatives against her shows in a country where the Catholic Church retains considerable influence. She has also had to contest with calls for her concerts to be banned on the grounds she is antireligious and promotes a deviant lifestyle.
Father Grefkowic also warned of a growing risk from Satan, highlighting the increasing popularity of tattoos, body piercing, horoscopes and magic shows as ways evil could corrupt people.

I always thought she was looking for controversies to sell more records and to get full audiences for her concerts. But it seems I am mistaken :)

These days I doubt that she needs to resort to such tricks.

body piercing,

Watch out for those pierced ears. Does that mean my granny was possessed?

. Do these people really have nothing better to do?

They are focused on the YOLO culture and its negative effect on youth. They have a point YOLO is like FUBAR and self hate rolled into one.

Doesnt that witch Madonna read the Satanic Jewish Kabbalah?

You are thinking of the Hermetic Qabalah, the Kabbalah is aligned with Judaism .

I had to look up YOLO and it is indeed true - hedonism is nothing new.

Nothing wrong with the Kabala.

You are thinking of the Hermetic Qabalah,

Madonna practises a very watered down version of it.

I still think she does it to attract attention. Until it will bore her to death, and then she will "discover" another conviction :)

it is a bit like when all these celebrities were "discovering Buddhism", which was very fashionable.

There's quite a lot of truth in that. The group she's involved with is basically a New Age sect who make their money selling lucky blue string and overpriced mineral water. The true Kabala/Qabala is hugely complicated and a life's work for some - the thing she does takes some of the concepts, restates them in a way that's devoid of the esoteric meaning and then sells it as a package to the gullible.

Probably harmless, definitely a scam.

YOLO is not hedonism Jon, as I mentioned YOLO is FUBAR with self hate ( no boundaries ). Hedonism is pleasure without pain.

Er, isn't the whole point of the RCC that You Only Live Once and that you actions determine where you spend eternity?

They are focused on the YOLO culture and its negative effect on youth.

The problem is that they're going about it in entirely the wrong way. It's a general problem with Catholicism - old men trying to tell young people what to do and what not to do, when they should be listening more to what the young people are trying to tell them - including young priests!

Er, unless most young priests are saying "I really, really need a shag.", which is quite possible, given that older priests in Poland have learned that as long as they are reasonably discrete, they're quite free to shag away.

So what exactly does that have to do with the YOLO culture?

I think the problem is that no amount of ranting by old men at such a conference is going to change that - the way to help is through grass roots outreach work.

I know of one priest that couldn't care less if you have long hair, short hair, piercings, listen to satanic metal, whatever - his only goal is to bring young people together in a supportive environment where they can talk openly without being judged. That is what changes things, not looking down on people for things like piercings.

It's worth pointing out that many Christians are covered in tattoos and piercings. The metalcore genre is a great example - the music is fairly heavy, tattoos and piercings are mandatory - yet many bands are openly Christian. I doubt the old men at this conference have much or any of a clue about this.

The very fact that they're focusing on Madonna rather than genuinely harmful things like drugs says it all.

Precisely. Which is more of a threat to Poland: Madge or the rise of the far right? Rather dire music or violent racism? But then perhaps it's expecting a bit much to hope that the RCC speaks out against Nazis and anti-semitism.

I think - trying to be objective - it's a problem caused by the way that the RCC works. If you think that they can rarely do anything radical because they can't agree on anything, then they end up having conferences on dull things like Madonna, piercings and tattoos rather than confronting the real issues that affect young people in Poland.

I'd guarantee that the average young person is far more at risk from being beaten up by thugs than by piercing their eyebrow.

One brings pleasure, the other tries its hardest to bring misery.

It is impossible to draw a comparison between the two.

I would also be interested to discuss the motivations of this journalist Mathew Day he seems to be somewhat negative towards Poland in his articles telegraph.co.uk/journalists/matthew-day reminds me of a few posters on PF.

He lives in Warsaw (and has done for at least the last decade, at the very least). You can usually find him at the Tortilla Factory when Scotland are playing rugby. I'm sure he'd be happy to talk to you.

I'd guess his motivation is simple - boring stories about how Poland is a nice place to be now don't get bought by newspaper editors.
