Lech Walesa gives warning over 'dangerous' Polish candidate

Speaking on the radio station RMF FM, the former Solidarity leader said that it would be a "disaster" for Poland if Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the identical twin of Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president killed in an April plane crash, won.

"Kaczynski is an irresponsible and dangerous politician," said Mr Walesa. "We could pay a high price if he wins."

Mr Walesa's attack came just hours after Mr Kaczynski won 36.7 per cent of the vote in the first round of Poland's presidential elections. He came just 5 per cent behind Bronislaw Komorowski, his main rival for the post.

With neither candidate securing an absolute majority, the two will face each other in a run-off vote on July 4.

What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Well, 'Bolek' Wałęsa is hardly the most impartial of judges, but he's not wrong about Kaczor's natural tendency to intrigue and divisiveness.

Don't think what he's said will affect the outcome that much. The people who voted for Olechowski and Napieralski aren't obvious PiS supporters, so won't transfer to Kaczyński in the second round - this one is Komorowski's to lose.

Why does this windbag even speak up?

This great Catholic and communist agent didn't even show up for the president's funeral. Even mafia goons pay their respect.

He has no authority in this country, although the myth goes on outside the borders.

Although I don't like Walesa I totally agree with him. The only thing he's getting right nowadays is his hatred towards PiS and Kaczynscy. They are all from the same drawer anyways..

Im not sure people outside of Poland believe he has much "authority" but we did think he commanded some respect...I suppose that's just a myth..

Sorry, but you will not find handwritten snitch reports to SB for money from brothers Kaczynski.

He did, not doubt, but if he had only admitted working for SB, I think the people would have forgiven him. Now, he is a legend in his own mind only, and continues to threaten anyone, except the real historians who he just can't refute.

Rather not, he's quite a cult figure in the UK.

Similarly in Poland. There was one book written by a student and suddenly all PiS supportes received a gun, just let them pass with their fumes and hatred.

Most folks there do not know what SB was nor do they care. They have heard of KGB and Stasi, but these are also abstract organizations from movies.

The Kaczyńskis were Wałęsa's king-makers. They orchestrated his presidential bid, ran his campaign and served him after he was elected. The split came in 1992 when the Olszewski government opened commie secret police files showing that Wałęsa and other top pro-Solidarity politicians had played ball with the SB. The Kaczyńskis favoured clearing up the collaboration issue like other former captive nations had done, but Wałęsa preferred to sweep everything under the rug. He actually brought down the Olszewski government by engineering a backroom parliamentary coup. Tusk, Kwaśniewski, Pawlak, Moczulski and other were his co-conspirators. Ever since then, Wałęsa has been feuding with the Kaczyńskis and anyone else who dared raise the Bolek issue. The fact is that over the years on more than one occaston he admitted to having signed some SB papers but deneid working for them. He probably was never a conscious SB infioremr but with a big family to supprot may have pledged cooperation in echange for some privileges or jszut to get them off his back. I seem to recall him once hinting that he did it to outfox them.

I thought you were an educated PO/SLD voter. Let me recommend some literature: SB a Lech Wałęsa - Przyczynek do Biografii. When you get though its 735 pages, get back to me and we will talk. He threatened to take the two historians to court, threatened, threatened....

Instead, his daughter took to court a young historian who wrote a book about his early life. She won, I think, as Wałęsa enjoys protection of courts. If you don't believe it, look at how his goon assaults a journalist...in court. The police refuse to react.

He was in court over this documantary film Plusy dodatnie, plusy ujemne:

Polonius, this one is for you also, if you haven't seen it. It was a lot more than signing a few "documents."

There was one book written by a student and suddenly all PiS supportes received a gun, just let them pass with their fumes and hatred.

One book written by someone who was doing it plainly for political points, too.

The split came in 1992 when the Olszewski government opened commie secret police files showing that Wałęsa and other top pro-Solidarity politicians had played ball with the SB.

And you trust those files as being accurate? The Stasi and KGB were notorious for faking documents - and you trust the SB as being genuine? Please. If he had genuinely cooperated, why didn't they destroy him in the early 80's with the proof?

Haave you read the book?

If he had genuinely cooperated, why didn't they destroy him in the early 80's with the proof?

He was useful to them. You seem not familiar with Polish politics at all. You also have not read the book I recommended. What have you read then? Paszkwile in Wyborcza?

And you trust those files as being accurate?

Get the book and see the handwriting analysis. The research is meticulous, otherwise The Wałęsa would be sueing. He has the money to do that, you know, the Wałęsa Institute he presides over. LOL

There's a wider story as to why and how the SB files weren't delved into as deeply as some might have hoped.

Rafał Ziemkiewicz's Michnikowszczyźna (spelling?) shows how other former activists with a lasting effect on public opinion (Michnik, in particular) actively argued against full publication. Charitably, this might be said to derive from the pragmatic conviction that an executive of lifetime oppositionists just wouldn't have the political muscle to smash the old order. (Events since would seem to suggest that the said former oppositionists' true talent lies only in smashing themselves up).

Hard, though, not to catch the whiff of self-interest in all this, and to quel the suspicion that the inevitable price of transition was compromise of this nature.

But hey - look around you. That's politics - if you want to join the circus, you'd better be ready to ride two horses.

Michnik also is in favor of SB functionaries retaining high pensions and that his brother's role as a Stalinist prosecutor was a youthful wybryk.

This is another authority of today's 'educated' PO/SLD salon dwellers.

Speaking of these pensions which only Lech Kaczynski took away from the more obvious functionaries of the communist state security. The people who we the torturers were geting 8,000; the tortured 2,000. Of course, Michnik's Wyborcza calls it a witch hunt.

absolutely right, whoever has said that.

SB agent Wałęsa and now you.

He could have been a Russian tzar or a mujahedin for what I care.

Those youtube videos say nothing about Walesa they say a bit about polish flawed justice system and police. Don't believe everything you see on the internet that guy could have been well provoking him...

We Poles care.

You clearly can not understand the spoken language in any of those videos. You are limited and should not voice your opinion on matters you can not understand.

I do. The cameraman says he was just standing there, filming. He was not. He was walking toward Walesa, to stick a camera in his face and got swatted. Made a big deal about it. Bunch of jerks.

For this part you don't need English. He was in fact backing up if anything. He was physically assaulted, not "swatted" in the courtroom. He had injuries. If you can't see that, you are heatstroken in Cocoaville.

Bunch of jerks.

Wałęsa and his goon, or the judge, or the police? It is unclear who you mean.

You are insulting someone here, I just don't know who. I agree, I am a little brash at times, but if you or I 'swatted' someone in a courtroom, we would be arrested.

I'm often on the other end of the camera, and if I'm sticking it in someone's face, I don't go crying foul when they get irate. They are jerks, especially those obnoxious women..

About insults - I was refering to those that cannot have a discussion on the facts alone, they have to insult the people they talking to, like you do.

It does, but it takes a PiS voter to recognize it. Read the thread again, or have someone read and explain it to you.
