I remember reading about the popularity of the occupier with the Germans...far on top where the US and by far the most disliked where the French, who for awhile behaved like the Russians in the East and got out of their zone what they could get their hands on...till the US made them stop.
You are right BB. The French behaved terribly towards The Germans after both world wars. And the way they behaved after the first war lead directly to the second one.....The French have much to answer for....
But their actions are understandable human, I think. The wish for revenge must have been enormous.
The US could afford to be so generous because they don't have been devastated and haven't suffered such enormous losses...and they were far away, they had a more global view of the happenings (and a smart leadership).
So...how many polish, hungarian and czech families are being fed by the german economy?
Most likely a similar number to those of German workers who work in volkswagen in Germany and are using those imported parts and modules to build cars for export.
Germany is not doing us any favor. It's a simple economic exchange between countries, but obviously a bigger profit margins are on German side.
a guy who is known for openly supporting and praising Putin wants Poland to come under his influence.
Who said anything about "coming under someone else's influence"?
I know that it may be difficult to comprehend for some people but there are other forms of political cooperation between parties than submission. Like forming an alliance to reach a common goal; in this case forming a large eurosceptic platform in the EU parliament.
Maybe you simply got used to this kind of "submit or be prosecuted" kind of politics since it's a standard procedure in Franco-German EU? :-)
Can't blame it all on the Treaty of Versailles, since the Germans were clearly the aggressors...in BOTH world wars,
On July 28, 1914, one month to the day after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife were killed by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia, effectively beginning the First World War.
... On August 1, after its demands for Russia to halt mobilization met with defiance, Germany declared war on Russia. Russia's ally, France, ordered its own general mobilization that same day, and on August 3, France and Germany declared war on each other.
@Bratwurst Boy "But their actions are understandable human, I think. The wish for revenge must have been enormous" And yet you ignore The British, who should have wished as much revenge as The French..... Instead you praise The Americans..,,,who were,as you say,detached...but you fail to recognise British restraint and inherent humanity....
You may also recall, B.B. that one of the first official acts by that Little Dude With The Small Mustachio as newly "ELECTED"(!!!!) leader of the German Reich was to subjugate aka "annex" Austria of "Austro-Hungary" fame:-) Come on, fella! In both wars, the Germans and the Austrians were essentially on the same side. Part of Hitler's plan was a future "Grossdeutschland", meaning and including of course logically the "Ostmark".
Well, ever since the demise of Herr Waldheim, the Austrians have been gettin' their little noses rubbed in their own s***t but plenty, believe you me, and not soon or often enough, I dare say:-) Grates on me too, pal! How d'ya think most Jews feel, seein' Germans such as yourselves having to do penance twenty-four seven practically for the past seventy-five years and counting while ol' Sound of Music Country merely basks in her pre-War glory, thumbing the noses at you guys for being forced to sit eternally in sackcloth and ashes!!
Hell dude, why d'ya think they elected Maximillian Kurz en masse and went gaga for a while over the late (lamentedLOL) Joerg Haider?!
I don't think anyone holds younger Germans responsible for the actions of their ancestors. But,and it is a big but, when they ignore how their adverseries then helped them rebuild their nation,it is like a slap in the face to us.
This is the "German arrogance" I have spoken of before. It needs to stop. Germans feel guilt and they feel they are still being punished for it 3 generations later. Understandable that they react. But they need to reconcile this with the fact that some countries did help you to rebuild.
Plenty still do, Milo, though interestingly enough, more in the States, not in Israel.
I tend to side with Elie Wiesel who termed the children of murderers "children, not murderers". The sins of the fathers aren't always visited upon the children.
Same, Milo. I could scarcely hold any living nation responsible for the collective crimes of their ancestors. That's not only vengeful and mean-spirited, it's also just downright stupid.
Internet is great wonder that will save Poland. Thanks to internet Poles will learn that they aren`t independent and why. Non would be able to manipulate people. Then Poles will solve the problem. On the streets of course, how else. Regime down, EU and NATO down. Price for freedom would be paid and who survive will live free, in same state with Serbs.
Wonder how well you will do after you are forced to pay war reparations for destroying Poland during WWII.
You can say it as many times as you like, but it is not up to you. Germany destroyed Poland during WWII and unlike most countries which Germany destroyed, Poland has never received a penny in compensation.
Kaczynski is currently adding it all up and will be presenting a bill before too long. Current estimates are $850 billion.
Ha-ha, Bolek! Sarcasm aside, post-War Germany's Federal Republic has been referred to over the years by certain commentators on such matters as "The Fourth Reich", you know:-)
Difference is though, that once Hitler tapped your country as "Germanic" aka "fit" to be Aryanized, one couldn't simply opt out of joining as is the case with the EU.
I remember the day when - I believe it was in 2003 - the German army entered Warsaw, arrested everybody in Sejm, put a shiny German gun (or was it the Italian Beretta?) to the President's head and told him to sign the application to join EU for the sole purpose of Germans exploiting Poland again.
Bad Germans. Poland should immediately stop taking their money and return what those terrible Germans invested in Poland immediately.
to the President's head and told him to sign the application to join EU for the sole purpose of Germans exploiting Poland again.
And everything was going so well when Merkel picked the German Prime Minister of Poland to head the EU, but he hadn't managed to get Poland to adopt the Euro before he left so the BundesBank does not quite have as big an influence as was initially hoped for.
The EU especially the EC has to be the most undemocratic institution in the western world. Hopefully once Poles stop receiving billions to fix sidewalks and remodel gymnasiums they will turn against it. I doubt Poles will appreciate their hard earned money going to Albania or to house turd worlders in the west.
