GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE!

As you do, but in this case you can verify it by doing little research on your own.

Yes and that research would produce a result as valid as stating that Jesus was six foot tall and claiming that it is proved by the Turin shroud. Oh sorry, I forgot one detail: we can look at the Turin shroud but your phantom document disappeared hundred of years ago.

So what you're saying is the supposed document proves Copernicus could speak Polish in the same way that the Lost jars of Cana prove that Jesus could turn water into wine.

Well that depends on who's doing the research but I'll bet if anyone can it would be you. You make a lot of outrageous claims here on this forum, so one more wouldn't really make a difference, would it now?

BTW what dose Jesus has to do with Kopernik being Polish, unless you claim he was Jewish.?

The Lost Jars of Cana prove that Jesus could turn water into wine; or at least they would if we could find them. Just as your letter proves that Copernicus could speak Polish; or at least it would if we could find it.

Harry, it's no use to talk reason with some guys....your beer in the pub gets warm instead :)

Just as your letter proves that Copernicus could speak Polish; or at least it would if we could find it.

Like I said do a little research, besides for you to make a claim he could not speak polish is as outrages as you claim that correspondence to be. To live in a country for so many years, be appointed to so many posts, doing so many important tasks on behalf of the Polish king and yet not to be able to speak Polish is as believable as Santa Claus. But than again we know he was smart, so he must have been a Jew. He did not speak Polish, he must have been a Jew, after all only the Jews did not assimilate in Poland and could not speak the language.

Like the ability to speak Polish stopped people from getting jobs! Sigismund III Vasa didn't speak Polish and he became King of Poland

as believable as Santa Claus.

There's more proof that he speaks Polish than there is proof Copernicus speaks it. Every year he gets thousands of letters from Polish children and he's never once written back asking a child to write again in another language.

But than again we know he was smart, so he must have been a Jew. He did not speak Polish, he must have been a Jew, after all only the Jews did not assimilate in Poland and could not speak the language.

Glad to see you're coming round. Don't forget that Copernicus was also a Mason. And a member of the Illuminati.

Seriously Harry, How long have you been in Poland? Do you speak Polish? And How old are you? Are you as dumb as you portray yourself to be?

Don't forget that Copernicus was also a Mason. And a member of the Illuminati.

You can joke all you want. One has to stoop down as low as you are to have a debate with a person such as yourself on a same level. Trust me it's not an easy task or something to be proud of, at least for some of us the normal people, as for others well i guess there's no cure.

I'm not sure how important language is for the aristrocracy and intellectuals. Didn't they all communicate in Latin for quite a while? Latin was, to them, what English is to Europeans now. A binding language that makes communicating easier.

English is the new Latin.

English is the new Latin.

Yes, unfortunately.

Je ne suis pas réfractaire à cette langue mais je préfèrerais le français,
parce que, à mon avis, l'anglais est un langue un petit peu irritante.

Torq, at one time French was popular with the rulers, too, but I forget when. Different Languages became fads within the elite. How can language be an indicator of who one is or where one's loyalties lie?

or where one's loyalties lie?

Well, to some extent your first language defines your identity and if we are to believe
some linguists it also defines your way of thinking and consciousness. However, it is
only a theory and wasn't proved by any empirical research (which might be quite
difficult to do anyway).

I remember what my first English teacher told me when I was a kid:
"You live as many times as many languages you know"; and now
after over 20 years I have to say that there was some truth in what
the old man said.

That's a Slovakian proverb, Torq.

How was Copernicus raised? How well formed was Polish identity around the time of his birth?
Torq

That's a Slovakian proverb, Torq.

I didn't know that, thanks.

How was Copernicus raised? How well formed was Polish identity around the time of his birth?

I can't talk about Kopernik on this board anymore. There's a special clause in
the agreement that we signed forbidding me to do that. Sorry, Seanus.

That's OK. From what I have read, it is not an outrage. The Germans have some strong claims but the father is still BB's achilles heel.

that Copernicus was also a Mason. And a member of the Illuminati.

And Bildenberg as well.
Torq

From what I have read, it is not an outrage.

Did you also read that an agreement was finally reached and signed
(well, by some of us anyway) and there should be no more sh*it
stirring around the Kopernik/Kopernikus issue on this board?

Aha, so he is a Germanised Pole. I don't really care either way, it's what he did for the advancement of humanity rather than his nationality.

...and whe have the red/white/black/gold-helmets to achieve and keep that!
Harry

there should be no more sh*it stirring around the Kopernik/Kopernikus issue on this board?

So perhaps we can all agree to use his Latin name rather than either of the national names? Copernicus
Seanus  15 | 19666
15 Jul 2009 /  #620
Well, that's what most refer to him as to let it be that :)
Torq
15 Jul 2009 /  #621

Good idea!

Copernicus

with all due respect but his name wasn`t Copernicus but Kopernik. It left to him from his father and grandfather. What is man without his roots

When famous Serbian inventor and scentist Nikola Tesla startet to get post letters adressed on the name Nicolas (americanized), he refused to receive letters. He insisted that his name is Nikola, not Nicolas

Good idea!

not good

He had different roots, Crow. Copernicus has a nice ring to it and is recognisable worldwide.

You can, of course, provide proof that Copernicus ever signed his name "Kopernik", can't you? Oh, sorry, you can not.

What is man without his roots

What is a man without a brain? That's you that is.

When famous Serbian inventor and scentist Nikola Tesla startet to get post letters adressed on the name Nicolas (americanized), he refused to receive letters. He insited that his name is Nikola, not Nicolas

a) If he wants to use a woman's name, that is entirely his own business.
a) He was born in Austria to Austrian born parents and was a subject of the Austrian empire. So by the same logic that you use to claim Copernicus was Polish, Tesla was not Serbian: he was Austrian.

He was born in Austria to Austrian born parents and was a subject of the Austrian empire.

What does it matter if Tesla was born in Austrian Empire?? Austro-Hungaria was ethnic mix

Tesla`s mother and father were ethnic Serbs. His father was Serbian Orthodox priest from long line of priests in family. Tesla was baptized under name Nikola Tesla. Tesla considered himself Serb.

Tesla considered himself Serb

I doubt if anyone considered himself austrohungarian.
Crow  154 | 9351
15 Jul 2009 /  #627
True enough, Crow, but life doesn't always work that way :(

i repeat my question

under which name Kopernik was baptized in Catholic Church? Found it and you would get answer in case with his name

If it happened that he was baptized as Copernicus, even if he is ethnic Polish, his real name is Copernicus. If he was baptized as Kopernik, that is his real name.

non of us has right to speculate about someone`s name. All is already said, written and decided

I doubt if anyone considered himself austrohungarian.

of course
Seanus  15 | 19666
15 Jul 2009 /  #628
Crow, I agree but international law is written and decided but rarely followed.
Crow  154 | 9351
15 Jul 2009 /  #629
that is the other question

But remember... all who take the sword shall died from sword. In other words... all who violate crucial international principles could expect that principles also could be violated when it comes to their own interests

Nicolas (americanized), he refused to receive letters. He insisted that his name is Nikola, not Nicolas

He also refused to have any fat people working in his office. He was genius but also kind of a kook.
