What is considered "dating" in Poland?

What is considered a dating? Is this an outing with a woman/man, no matter of what character? Is this a restaurant scene or an ice cream purchase? Is it falling in love, holding hands or kissing that makes a date a date? Because you may go out with a friend, so is this a date too? These may seem as crazy questions, but I am asking them with full honesty of having no idea of what that word exactly means. How one distinguishes? By intentions of the parties involved? But oftentimes you have no idea the intention of the other side. How is it defined in Poland?

I don't think there is a sharp border when something starts to be dating. Probably it varies widely between different couples.

When 2 persons meet and starts to feel that it might lead to a relationship in the future, I would call it dating. But as you say, it's difficult to know what the other person thinks in the beginning.

But you will probably never find 1 universal definition of dating.


I see 'woman+man' go out only as friends in Poland. So this would not be a good definition of dating.

Hm, interesting. That's probably why I couldn't capture its meaning. But this inclarity creates misunderstanding sometimes. But would there be a subtle way to present your position without hurting or don't look stupid acting on simply one's own mistaken presumption of the other person's intentions?

Maybe if you ask yourself when 2 women go out for a drink is it considered a date? When would it be a date(romantically I mean) if 2 women have a drink togther?

I would go with there being no clear definition as others have mentioned.

Maybe it takes some time before the persons can "feel in the air" whether it's dating or just "meeting".

The problem is you sense that for the other person it is more than it is for you and you feel that the outcome will be painful for both. But I guess it is a part of normal social interactions.

If they call it a date then it's date. If not then it's a simple meeting, a hanging-around

It is easy to be cool with oneself. It is unjust to be like that to openness of others.

well if you say to her that you understood her in wrong way and you were not dating her in fact then this the real thing which can make her feel humililated... staying cool is the only thing you can do.

dating is when two people have romantic feelings for each other, IMO, communicated in some way.
