I am a male UK Citizen, a Polish female wants to pay me £1000 & £2000 (later) for marriage ????

SITUATION:

I'm recently divorced, so I visited a dating site (POF) to try to get a few dates (I'm 59 now - no great beauty anymore) - I was approached by a Polish woman who lives in London, she is so facinated with me that she wants to pay me £1000 upon marriage and £2000 later - just to marry her.

WHAT I'VE DONE UP TO NOW

I am really facinated by the situation- that a woman from a country that joined the EC in May 2004 and a citizen of that country, who may live in the UK freely (without let or hiderance, may work, come & go as would any UK citizen) would want to marry, so desperately a UK citizen - supposedly, just to stay here with the security that they would not be affected by any change in our national politics (because she would be married to a UK citizen and not just residing here as an EU Citizen.

PRESSURE EXERTED

The Polish woman wants to marry as soon as possible. I'm hesitant, I am almost afraid but damned interested to know whether i am the most attractive chap on the planet or whether i am poised to be the subject of just another scam !

ANSWERS PLEASE

Wulkan, thank you for your reply - can you tell me what the scam actually is ???

Man! think about it, why would she give you 3000£? (It's a lot of cash in Poland). As a Polish citizen she can catch a plane to the UK for 50£ and get the job another day and that would cost her less than 200£. Man! why am I even explaining that to you, are you 59 or 9? sigh...

Some Poles think that with British passport you can work in Australia and Canada :) Also perhaps she wants do divorce you later and take half of your house?

May be she wants more and he will have an accident one of those days... Even worse.

I would run away from her. She's poison.

You could pretend to play along, take copious notes, and then write a psychological novel on the dangers and insecurities of contemporary European life, but I would not recommend marrying the lady ;-)

I can't begin to thank you all ... the trouble with scams is that the person being scammed assumes that everyone he/she comes in contact with (in this case the scammer/cheat/fraudster etc) - is as honest as he/she is.

You've saved me from financial and probably health ruination - see, there are still good people left in the world and I'm pleased to say that I rate you Polish people (or of Polish decent/ancestors) among them

Dastavania ??

Dastavania ??

Are you trying to say "do svidaniya"? Because you've been told it's Polish. If so, I think we may have worked out why the 'Polish' woman wanted to marry you!

Harry & All,

Forgive me please, I was trying to be polite and say 'cheerio'

Incidentally, I just had another message from the polish lady:
You need 2 proof of adress, ID /passport/ or British birth certificate & proof of divorce.
You need to come to London. To submit our documents will cost 35 each. Together 70£. After 16 day you will get the first money. (£1000) The rest later on. (£2000) This is seriously offer and seriously money.

Sent from my iPhone

Sorry if I caused any confusion - I was trying to say 'do svidaniya' - I believe this to be polite Polish for good bye.

I don't speak any Polish, rather fluent German but my Mother tongue is English.

Thank you for looking after me everyone !

Wulkan is so very right - there's no fool, like an old fool !

You know, you could consider this offer. If you don't posses anything and if you calculate that divorce will not be expensive, then you will have some money for vacation and free marriage experience.

Nothing needs to be forgiven.

It's actually Russian. If somebody says that to you as goodbye, they are almost certainly Russian and not Polish. Russian citizens do not have the right to live in the UK but being married to a British citizen would give them that right.

Harry, is Monitor being serious ? - Marry a stranger, maybe even make a pre-nuptual agreement, maybe have some sex and then later just divorce her (assuming she hangs around after the marriage) ?

This is something new to think about !

If you know that from her then it's quite clear that she isn't Polish and she's been lying to you. That means she is from a Russian speaking country that has no legal entry to the UK.

Marry a stranger

That is illegal when done for money.

maybe even make a pre-nuptual agreement

Those are not binding under current UK law.

maybe have some sex

Most probably not.

and then later just divorce her (assuming she hangs around after the marriage) ?

Assuming that you can find her and want to go through the expense. Frankly it'd be cheaper and easier to just visit a prostitute if all you want is meaningless sex.

Harry, is Monitor being serious ?

No, it's too small money.

I feel better knowing that you were all 'just joking' -

Actually, the idea of marrying a woman you don't love - is absolutely horrifying !

Well that was it then, I can't take the chance of getting my heart broken and I think lots of the women out there appear to be into their own financial advancing by destroying men and what little financial security they have managed to build up. I'll just have to take a page out of Harry's book - if I fancy a bit of sex, I'll just have to pay for a prostitute. Simples !

Pity though, because like the romantic fool that i am - I thought I had plenty of love and commitment left to satisfy some kindly, honest and decent women. Maybe I'm a bit of a dinasaur - maybe my kind should be extinct !

What does it have to do with this offer? Nothing.

No, I said it would be cheaper and easier to use a prostitute than going through a sham marriage in the hope of getting laid; I personally would never to either of those things (apart from anything else, Englishmen used to certainly enjoy a rather unfair advantage over locals back in the days when I was playing the game).

Good Tip Harry -

I had quite forgotten my younger days in Germany where (as you say, Englishman have an unfair advantage over other nations) I would enter a mixed (male / female) naked sauna - wearing nothing but my socks! ... and when questioned as to why I had my socks on - I used answer that I was 'einen englander' and that we English men prefer never to be seen naked !

thanks !

She is probably not polish, most likely ukraine or russian . She is marrying you for your passport. Why would a polish women marry a british stranger unless you are super rich .

Now that makes sense, and the urgency of the marriage would indicate that she shouldn't be here and is facing deportation or having to leave the UK for some other reason.

Ladies & Gentlemen, that was a close encounter with the wrong kind, may i just thank you all for your assistance in saving my neck !
