When my wife goes into a shop, I often stay outside and keep a bit of distance from the shop door. The hope is that she will pay but, more often than not, she comes out and signals me across to pay. I have to agree with this, even with friends. Ukrainian wants the best food, expensive drinks etc. Polish friend is more than happy to eat at fastfood and drink coke. I know which one is a better friend.

I have to make my wife pay for the windows. I've just paid a tidy sum for new doors and I'm getting fed up of always dipping into my pockets. If she wants new windows, she can save up for them.
