Uptight Poles

Interesting way of looking at it. The basic truth remains, 'some are uptight and some aren't'. The old farts tend to be uptight but there's plenty of that in Scotland too. Come to think of it, in most places I've been I could say the same.

Maybe we can change the focus of it. How many Polish guys or guys that live with Polish women feel that they are uptight? Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't, right, but let's have some stories.

This thread is a trap anyway. If we deny that we are uptight, it means that we are uptight because if we weren't, we wouldn't bother denying. If we don't deny, it means we're admitting the truth.

yes, I set the trap;). I am not that crafty lol, but maybe you are?

My next thread title:

Are Poles crafty?

I wasn't serious. You Scots are better at detecting sarcasm in real life conversations...

We do our best :)

Many Poles just seem to drift around at a leisurely pace and they don't seem to be uptight. Being in their own country seems to relax many. I think they'd be uptight in Pakistan ;)

This is good.Slavs are reversed and do not annoy you.

They simply now their place in life. Shows self awareness. ;)

The westerners are in your face because they want their presence to be noticed. Here you learn to be quiet.

Typical 'conquerer' behavior, subconciously. Very annoying.

with Polish women feel that they are uptight?

Polish women have emotional intelligence as far as I have observed. They know what you like and what not or the impression they make.

Being a Polish girl, I'd take that in offence ;) However I've myself been told by friends I'm uptight (I don't live in Poland). And yes so maybe I am...but trust me, there are Polish women out there that are extremely nice and relaxed (need I say- my parents are pretty darn "relaxed"). However yes I tend to half agree with your statement, compared to the country I live in, Polish women are a little more "serious", but I don't think uptight is the right word... But look, every country has its share of people, every country has their uptight ones and their relaxed "Rastafarians".

Just tell your friend you had a problem with what she said, or just don't hang out with her if it's an issue? There's plenty more people you can befriend. :)

"Rastafarians".

There is an interesting Polish relation to this phenomena. Rastafarians believe that the Ethiopian emperor Haile Selasse was God upon the Earth, but there is a book by a Polish writer, Ryszard Kapuściński , who stayed in the Emperor's palace for some time, which exposes the emperor as a petty brute who trained his dog to urinate upon the legs of people waiting in line to meet him.

Polish writer, Ryszard Kapuściński

Quite the controversial guy. He wrote, "The Emperor: Downfall of an Autocrat," which I read a long time ago. In his youth he was also a commie. He might be considered an "uptight Pole" in many ways; stubborn as hell.

I find some Polish women so controlling. I guess it is upbringing.

Word!

All the ladies in my family is control freaks. The daughters inherit it from their mothers.

This is so visible as an aspect of life here. So controlling and so forthright so that nobody can lay anything on you. You can't be too soft in Poland as there are those waiting to pounce.

Seems to be a recurring pattern. I met once this Swedish-Polish doctor, an elderly man with a lots of life experience. We had a nice chat about life in general, relationships and such. At one point he said to me to never ever marry a Polish woman as she would (in his words) 'crawl onto your head'. He himself Polish-married (few times I guess) and his son who got married in Poland who also ended up with a total control freak. According to him Polish wives quite often would tell their husbands how to their jobs without having neither clue nor professional expertise pertaining to the particular task.

if men weren't so lame we wouldn't control you so much.unfortunately, you are unable to survive without this. at least it's so with Polish men...without their mothers and wives they 'd spend their entire life in front of tv eating kielbasa with beer every day and they would change their socks once a month.

"Polish men......they 'd spend their entire life in front of tv eating kielbasa with beer every day and they would change their socks once a month."

So what's the problem? As to the socks, they can always turn them inside-out and wear them longer.......:)

Somebody here thinks they are superior because of being born with a vagina :-)

Typical Slavic princess stuff.

Uptight Poles

I've read the topic and I don't get it.

"My Polish <friend> is an uptight, snotty tart that I keep around only because she has a semi-decent behind and I hope to bang it one day" would be a much more appropriate title :-)

I've spent tons of time in Poland, mostly business but also leisure, and by no means do I find all Polish people uptight. What You are doing is looking at what one arrogant girl who probably had no decent upbringing did and saying that her behaviour means all of her people behave like that.

And that's just no good, sir.

Also, I need to point out that during all my time in Poland ( and most other places for that matter ) I never had a person ( male/female ) tell me to stop smoking/drinking/gambling or whatever, it would be a clear sign of disrespect. Either sir You are choosing Your "friends" poorly or You lack what can be described as charisma or presence.

that I agree with, but I want to point out that I am a woman and I was in no way involved with that particular person romantically lol

Either sir You are choosing Your "friends" poorly or You lack what can be described as charisma or presence.

thank you Sir. I will start working on my charisma pronto:) lol

Oh, yeah, indeed she is.

Cut out the part about the semi-decent behind then, switch "sir" to "madam" and it is still all there.

I mean I'm sorry, but her telling You not to smoke publicly - wtf is that? Blatant display of lack of respect.
JustysiaS  13 | 2235
9 May 2011 /  #111
she was unhappy about my smoking, told me not to smoke. I told her to relax. She got upset and left

you should've shouted after her "no point running now, it's already in your lungs!!" ;)

I see your point, I probably wouldn't hang out with people who were doing something i couldn't accept, instead of hanging out with the and whining about it or demanding they stop. Respect is something that works both ways and hell, there are much more upsetting things people can do to you out there than smoking in your presence. Can't believe the arrogance of some people sometimes, patronising and demanding things for no other reason but "because I say so".

Hello :)
I'm from POLAND; Szczecin.
I've read quite a lot of stuff founded on this forum. Started with topic about "dirty words" which made me laugh as hell :P

Guys, i don't know what you've heard about POLAND but it's propably one of the points of view. I'm med stud and I am taking into consideration emigration to US... My mother said: USA is the country of morons, fat idiots who are not using their brains. Is it? Well, propably there is some truth in those words. So why I am thinking about living in US? Well, Polish guys are ********, i feel the goverments dick in my ass all the time, roads(surface) are dramatic and so wide, that you are constantly thinking if it is safe to pass the bus or overtake the cyclist. As a M.D after studies my salary would be around 6500 US dollar per YEAR!!!! oh did I mention about prices in POLAND? Well take a look at ceneo.pl or ebay.pl ( 1PLN = 0,37USD ). Taxes are insane... If you give your best friend 10000$ you will pay 19% tax! FFS!

Soo... does Pols swear more than americans? Yes they do!
Are they uptight? Yes... as fuck'n hell! Polish people are also jealous of everything, that anyone on world has got something better, we're cocksure, arrogant and quite depressed in the same time!

But we will not tell you about this because of shame! In poland we're always talking a lot about history, how great we were, how strong an brave. We pols took russians indepandance. Russians great independace day is the celebration of getting rid of pols out of their country. Well polish people doesn't tell about failure and problems and do not even try to compare any nation to pols. You are not able to win the confrontation. If you will... polish guys will persuade you with power of fist, how great they are!

If you ask me about economy of my country i would laugh crying. Maybe the law and taxes will be normal for my grandchilds... for sure it will be someday and Poland will be the great again... :P I'm sure about that, because we were great many times in history :P

That's slightly off-topic ( as was nearly all of Your rant ), dear doctor, but You're whining without a cause there.

6500 USD = 6500 x 2.73 = 17745 PLN = 1478,75 PLN per month.

You must be talking about the bloody "staz" I believe You call it. It only lasts a year. After that it is specialization and After specialization You'll be able to easily make 5-6 times the monthly amout given above.

So cheer up and quit whining.
