Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!?

So in summary, Germans love anal sex and Greeks invented gayness.

I honestly don't know where the Scottish being thrifty stereotype started...I have always found scottish people to be very generous...except people from Fife.

Anybody know of the stereotype about Sweeds, Fins, Danes, Italians etc? (From a Polish point of view)

I noticed that the Polish guys I worked with loved the Norwegian girls we got in and the fact that they were big spenders.

Italians are disliked by the hospitality trade the world over (outside of Italy) because they are generally very arrogant, demanding, rude and never tip. I work with an Italian scottish family and they refuse to serve in the restaurant when Italians are in because they are worse with Italians.

Poles often think Finns are depressed alcoholics, and very good socialistic. I sometimes hear Poles refer to Swedes as non-believing atheists who prefer gay marriage and kiddie prn to good old fashion family

values and a day spent at church (which is stereotypically what a Polish should be).

Well I think it's very common all over Scandinavia :S
The wierdest thing is that Norway has state religion: Protestant = 2/3 of ministers has to be protestant and the king also. The only reason it's not abolished yet is that the goverment has control over the church! It's terrible and they say we got free religion!! My @$$

Incidentally Norway is a mystery to most Poles, other than beautiful fjords Poles generally know very little about this country, so there are few stereotypes about the people. And they have good fish. And good looking girls. Maybe because of the diet high in Omega-3 oils, the girls are sexy.

Greeks didn't invent gayness, the Romans did. If you were gay in ancient sparta or athens the government code was execution since it went against Zeus and the moral code of the "gods" anyway. It isn't ancient Greece anymore, anyone can be a philosopher, and intelligent people exist all around. But since you people want stereotypes, well I live in America and people here are too hypocritical and materialized.

Hey people! I am starting to think there are few stereotypes of other people in Poland! BORING! I want some more stuff :P

What about Spaniards?
What about Lithuanians?
What about Serbians?
What about Danes?
What about Englishmen?
What about Dutch?

Spaniards - warm blooded, emotional, fiery
the French - romantic
Italians - frivolous, flirters, bombastic, big mouth (paasta, baasta, mangiaa, parlaare) ;)
the Czechs - not serious (because of Polish perception of the language)
there is a saying 'jak w czeskim filmie' 'czeski film - nikt nic nie wie' - noone knows what's going on and what it is all about

but there is some deal of good feelings toward the Czechs (there were lot's of Czech films on the TV in communist times) there is even more sympathy toward Slovaks as the language sounds like Czech spoken with Polish accent.

the most stereotypes in Polish mind are of Germans, Russians, Ukrainians and Jews

as for the Ukranians it goes down to the attrocities they performed on Polish populace of Kresy (augmented by film there is perception of cruel and treacherous Ukrainians)

among many people who have left the Ukrainian part of Kresy 'Ty Ukraińcu' is quite a strong offense

'Ty Ukraińcu' or even worse 'Ty banderowcu' you can wiki Banderowcy (ukrainian nationalists)

Most countries have both positive and negative stereotypes. The lucky ones have no stereotypes at all.

I remember when I was in kindergarden age and was asked my my mother's friend it I was Ukrainian. I told her: No, Miss, I am Chinese. That shut her right up. LOL.

But Swedes know that their country is guilty of the crime of Ikea.

They have blue eyes and sweet freckles. They are tall, slender and beautiful blondes.

There may be some truth to that. The rest of Scandinavia also thinks the Finns are weird, who are not Scandinavians but Finno-Ugrics. I have some insight into this because I have been doing research on Hungarians, who are Finno-Ugric and related to Finns, and are also a depressed bunch.

I think it may have something to do with Celiac Disease, which is prevalent in Finland. They can't digest grains well, and this wreaks havoc on multi-systems in the body, including neurologically.

the finnish & the rest of the scandinavians are always drunk because they dont get much light in the winteer & theyre just represing the feelings, the suiside rate is high too i think

I can agree on not being too shy. Most Scandinavian girls are liberal (from a Polish point of view; very liberal), and more straight forward when it comes to these kind of things than Polish ones.

But being "over-macho" is the stupidest thing you can do, if you don't want to be considered as the local clown.

Ironic sense of humor is very popular in Scandinavia. It's a good tool you can use. But I have noticed that it's pretty difficult to use for people who are not used to it, so be careful and put it in a nice way.


They have everything you want, good quality and pretty nice prices. :) The only negative thing is that it's almost impossible to put the thing you bought together with the attached instructions. Let's just say you have to be creative.
