Are Poles winter lovers?

Hej everyone,

I was just wondering how many poles actually love winter with snow all aroung?? I myself love snow ;) perhaps due to the fact I came from the country where snow falls just in the mountains !!

How about you ? Do you really like snow ?

I am not particularly impressed by snow. I like it though when the weather is as it is in Warsaw today: no or mild wind, mild temperature slightly below the zero Centigrade, a lot of sunshine and ... a lot of the very white snow. Quite pleasant and very refreshing! In my childhood there used to be really snowy winters in Poland.

Polish drivers hate snow. Even though they do somehow plow the main roads, it is a slow process and the side roads may never get plowed.

I love snow. Not so much ice, which we get a lot of, but snow. Looks like the trend is toward snowier winters. I don't mind that. I hope we get even more snow next year than this year. Our side roads never get plowed where I live, just the main ones. We still manage to get thru.

Its funny how people in Poland still "manage to get thru" yet here in the UK the whole place comes to a stand still with a tiny dusting of snow.

I somehow think they would cope better with snow in Dubai!!!!

Well, you got to have snow plows, salt, and know how to drive without getting stuck in it. Helps if someone you know has a hydralic pull on the front of their truck.

Not true...those of us with a 4 x 4 with decent tyres on just love to go out and play in the snow...If you have an old Landrover its the only time you can go faster than everybody else...!

Snow? I prefer a snow-white beach instead. And while we're at it: get rid of the regular Christmas tree and get me a nice palm tree. :)

Four wheel drive makes all the difference. Snow is great. I love the way it covers the ground so the air is so pure because there's nothing in it like dust or mold spores. That's what's so invigorating about it.

Have you been to Warsaw? It was minus 6.9 at ten o'clock this morning in central Warsaw and is expected to fall to minus 13 tonight. I know that: I live in Warsaw.

Not true

Just because i don,t have a whole lot of money at the moment does not mean i never had...In my garden at the moment is a Landrover 110 lwb , a Rangerover 3.9 V8 , and a Diesal Jeep cherokee...My hobby is off roading , and it was leading covoys of 4 x 4 vehicles to Eastern europe that brought me to Polska in the first place on route to Belarus....

It does not matter if you believe that or not...I am not trying to impress anyone by claiming to have my own private yacht , its just a few old 4 x 4 cars , why is that so hard for you to believe...?

There is 10-12 inches on the floor and still falling outside my door, i wouldn't call that a dusting.

Must be a complete disaster there then....

It's a real struggle unless you have a 4x4, the forcast is for minus temps tonight as well.

I had a nightmare trying to bring a load of wood in a two wheel drive peugeot boxer van up the mountain here.
I then got stuck in mud on the steep slope, had to unload it there in the cold dark over the weekend.

All the kids around here (and some of the bigger kids;) go down the carpark for handbreakers and fun!

Snowmobiling makes winters go fast. My little boy just got his very own kitty cat.

Have a look on Autotrader...buy yourself a Jeep cherokee , they are going for about 500 quid now , not the most fuel efficient of machines unless you pay a bit more and get one that runs on lpg , but you will get through the snow without any problem....

You can also get diesal ones but watch out for early models with head gasket problems....

It creates a beautiful picture, but also many hardships.

Just get a team of Huskies and mush :)
There's skiiing, too. Snowboarding. Snow Mobiling. Snow Man Building. Snow houses. Ice sculptures. Ice Skating. Snow Ice Cream (tho why would anyone want to eat ice cream in winter?)

Well I made it into work after digging out the driveway and using the all wheel drive car to get to the station. Why did I bother? I've been at work for an hour and there's only one other person in. I suppose I could watch the cricket from SA but that would only depress me further.

It was snowing in Warsaw the other day, and I tried photographing the snowflake crystals as they were not melting quickly. I didn't do to well, because I was unable to hold the macro lens steadily enough. Has anyone had any luck with this? I will try next time with a tripod.
