Czech does sound a little silly. My fiancee and I were in Cieszyn and she had a laugh at some of the words used. What is it the Poles say about them, Pypitski?
Na Zachode ne noviny is how Czechs joke the title should sound in Polish, as rendered in fractured Czech. I know it get's complicated because several levels are involved.
Thread attached on merging: Do Poles find the Czech language funny in some way?
I've heard this before a few times. I've heard it (czech) described as like Polish but as a baby would speak it or like Polish but with strange old fashioned and sometimes "arseways" (for want of a better word) expressions and turns of phrase.
Can anyone confirm?
I believe that among Slavic languages Polish and Czech are the two that are the least dissimilar anyway.
Yes,polish laugh for some reason at Czech words like letadlo and plavidlo,I am not sure why. They also laugh at expressions like moricko, vodicko and other diminutives that are used in Czech and other Slavic languages to show affection.
Sorry mods/admin - should have checked for an existing thread.
What prompted me by the way was when I attempted to translate some of Zetigrek's post in her Mr Poland thread - so apparently żenua is "zen" in Polish but the translator initially autodetected the language as Czech, and provided "woman" as a translation!
Well they do have certain zen-like qualities I guess ; )
Oh, Teffle since we are freinds you can ask me a question in person by sending pms ;))) Żenua=żenada - those words (they are nouns) are derived from żenujący (adj) = embarrassing. So make a noun from a word embarassing and you will have "żenua" ;)
Both forms (żenua and żenada) are colloquial and incorrect forms in Polish language but żenua is more youth slang word.
Don't use the translators - they are dumb and often mislead and write some bollox. I suggest you to use this dictionary: megaslownik.pl/slownik/ It's quite ok even though its developed by user community who can add words.
I've heard Polish language sounds rather ancient, kind of eastern and uneducated to a Czech native. However, my Czech friend seemed to know very little about Poland, which is probably caused by the total lack of Polish movies, music and whatnot in the Czech Republic. Czechs have obviously never given a damn about Poland. Complete ignorance I'd say.
Most slovic languages are very simular. Root words, spelling, pronunacians[accents] and conatations[manner of usage] Many swear or curse words if translated are not really bad. Context and applaction to the situation. I am of Czech decent and Czech was my 1st language. There are so many words In Czech seem serious but when translated to English are funny and amuseing.
