In Poland, are women and girls obligated to wear head scarves in church?

That is not true. I attended three audiences with St. John Paul the Great in 1985, and not only did I NOT wear a mantilla, but none of the ladies in the group wore any either, and no one was talked to about it.

In a recent photograph from last week's 'Nowy Dziennik', I saw at least ten or maybe more women, much older granted, wearing chusteczki (kerchiefs) during what looked to be a Sunday mass.

Perhaps it's a matter of generations and, to be sure, I only observed them in the photo sitting in the pews listening, perhaps to the priest, rather than taking Communion.-:)

Why force woman to wear head scarves? What is that? Era of inquisition is over.

And now you go enter in Catholic Church in Poland with symbol of Svetovid on chain around your neck. Seriously, would that upset priest?

I am not religious at all.
But why would any sane person go to church wearing a pagan symbol?

I haven't seen headscarves worn by women since my early childhood and even then it was really uncommon. Berets in church are a different story, though but that's quite stereotypical, too. :) Inie winter women often wear hats and men don't.

Generally speaking, when I was a kid and we attended a mass we were taught that in winter boys had to take off their hats in church but girls didn't.

As for scarves in general, I know in some Italian churches they won't let you in if you have bare shoulders. So you need to bring one or take one they offer. I was also offered a scarf in a synagogue in Kraków.

Why you name your own culture as `pagan`? Why humiliate your own culture? In Slavic languages `pagan` is pejorative word. In Serbian, it means `evil` and `bad`. Name of religion is `rodoverie` (faith of elders/ancestrors).

Then, let me ask you, why is normal for Slavic children to wear Egyptian ankh (cross of eternal life), Jewish David star or uncountable symbols of pre-Christian Rome and Greeks, while isn`t normal to wear symbol of Svetovid in Church? Why is that so?
