anna_chmiel 6 May 2007 / #39It does get quite cold... but it varies from year to year, and to tell the truth it's really beautiful in Poland during winter time. Russia's where the unbearable cold is, -20'C in winter sometimes...
deeIrish 7 | 33 21 Aug 2007 / #40Topic attached on merging:Winter in PolandHow cold does it get? How long does it usually last?
davidpeake 14 | 451 21 Aug 2007 / #41hi, depends, which part of Poland, some places get -20 but thats not everyday, i would say around 0 to -10, and it last 3 months or more.
deeIrish 7 | 33 21 Aug 2007 / #423 months, eh?November to January?Basically, what month does it normally begin to thaw? Also, which parts of Poland have the harshest and longest cold periods of the winter?
davidpeake 14 | 451 21 Aug 2007 / #43ok maybe 4-5 months would be better, depending on the year, and the mountains would be the coldest areas.
Magdalena 3 | 1827 21 Aug 2007 / #44Winter on the Baltic coast can also be quite tough, with strong, icy winds. The north-east (roughly the Warmia and Mazury region) is not to be sneezed at either! ;-)
croggers 8 Oct 2007 / #45why are people saying "winter in poland is not that bad, ok all english people, (im english), i live in gdansk, and in the winter (getting up at 6am) and all day its f'ng cold! we dont have a cold like it in england. we get -2 to -4 if its really cold in england(at night) im not compaining, give me a cold winter over a sometimes cold wet and rainy, and sometimes mild winter anyday.poland is great! summers are hot winters are COLD. what more can you ask for beach and skiing.

krysia 23 | 3058 20 Oct 2007 / #58Hope all the snow comes my way. My snowmobile is reading and rearing to go.
krysia 23 | 3058 20 Oct 2007 / #60Poland also has snowmobiles, they are called "skuter śnieżny" but the trails there are not as well developed as in the US or Canada. They are very expensive and only a few have them. There are not enough open spaces in Poland to ride them but in Zakopane they are used by the ski patrol.
