Transferring foreign drivers license in Poland

Hi everyone,

I'm moving to Poland in a month for the United States and am looking into how I can get a Polish drivers license once I arrive. I am a polish citizen and have a US drivers license. I tried doing some research online, but the most recent information I could find is from 5 years ago. (auto-swiat.pl/1-jak-przepisac-prawo-jazdy-z-zagranicz nego-na-polskie).

Does anyone know if the process is still the same?

Also, assuming that it is (and all I have to do is take the theory test), does anyone have any good sources for free practice tests, etc?

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: for the link to work, delete the space in "zagranicz nego" so that it's "zagranicznego"... it won't let my edit that on my post (every time I do it, it still shows up with the space)

nevermind- I found the answer. bip.krakow.pl/?dok_id=3276&sub=procedura&proc=KM-19

You can also get an International Drivers License in the interim. This is used in conjunction with your US license. I am moving to Poland in two weeks myself and have a California license and will be getting the International Drivers License to use.

I have an Irish drivers licence thats expiring soon, what does it take to swap it for a polish licence? I have lived in Poland for about a year.

start honing your Polish driving skills.
Learn how to check if its OK to overtake by pulling out into the other lane first to have a good look.
Drive the wrong way down a motorway a few times.
Veer wildly from one lane to the other as you please.
After this you could possibly apply for a Polish driving licence.

If you complain so much about Polish drivers, you haven't seen how people drive in north Africa, or even south Europe...

"you haven't seen how people drive in north Africa, or even south Europe..." lol

I have driven in the above countries,/ continents , I used to think the Italian's were bad until i lived in China.

Poland is very similar to China when it comes to being killed on the roads.

After two years in Poland I left our economical family saloon back in the UK I bought a 5 Litre 3 ton 4wd Euro Ncap 5 with 10 airbags.

now I feel safe , I was a qualified advanced driver / rider trainer in the UK but I found that those skills were still not enough to save me from the inevitable accident that is going to befall me in Poland, hence the 3 ton Euro ncap 5 ,,, loonies absolute loonies without a clue.

Stick to the topic please

Sorry mod you are quite right let me re-phrase what I am trying to say,
Do you really want to swap your driving license for that of a country that has a worse death ratio per 100,000 population than lets say Azerbaijan, or Turkey.

Would a Polish driving license give you an advantage to get a job as as a professional driver in Europe?.
When it comes to driving we have a long way to go, and allot to learn in Poland.

Hi, I'm a Polish citizen but never lived in Poland, I have a Polish passport and Polish Dowod osobisty, I have a USA drivers license, I want to spend more time in Poland now and I was thinking of converting my drivers license to a Polish one, can it be done just by conversion?

obywatel.gov.pl/kierowcy-i-pojazdy/wymien-zagraniczne-prawo-jazdy-na-polskie

The link above seems to imply that its possible to convert it without any wrtten (theory) or road tests, is that correct?

Will I need to change my legal address to Poland? if yes and I stay at a friends house when I'm there, can I sign a lease with him on on one room in his house and use it for residence card?

If you are a citizen you don't need a residency card, the law says you should register your place of residency , but there is no penalty if you don't.

As for licence consider getting a international driving licence. but if you want a polish car in your name you will need to register your residency.

Sorry I meant to say register my residence, I understand that there is no penalty if I dont register, the question is will they let me get a drivers license without a registered address?

I want to get a Polish license because the international license from the USA is only valid for one year and I need to renew it in the USA only, its a pain in the neck.
