I remember being told that it is inappropriate to wear a shirt with short sleeves after the mess. It was summer and hot outside. I had my pants on me, though. I agree with the Welshguy in that the dressing code is blown out of proportions sometimes and older women (not men!!!) have problem with that. On the other hand, I think it is just some part of the generally accepted etiquette to be properly dressed. Have you seen a groom in tuxedo and shorts? Why not? Because his bride would tear the last bits of hair if she sees him like that. Maybe, the women is the real problem, not the shorts in the Church as such?
How could things have gone so wrong (Poland church dress code)
beacause the laws of the II republic of Poland dictate that I cant walk in Public places naked.
of course you can! :)
beside, do you know any country with no dress code anywhere?
I spent this long weekend on the beach in Rowy with my wife and kids and we did not wear a stitch the whole time, because we were given a choice.
would you judge somebody who's wearing a sweather on a beach? what would you think?
it should be valid for both, men and women.
it is... they get cold looks too... and then whine on some forums... :)
Is pedophilia appropriate? Are shorts in the streets appropriate? Who decides what's appropriate?
it's not about pretty-ugly or cheap-expensive, but about what's appropriate and what's not...
People are social creatures by nature. We live in societies. We are expected to conform to certain rules and manners. If not, the society turns on us because we break the rule. Today you wear shorts to church, tomorrow you might kill someone. Don`t you understand that every rule, even the silliest one, has been invented to eliminate maniacs who are not able to live in a society?
You shouldn`t wear shorts to church just like you shouldn`t belch at the table, pick up your nose, smell your armpits in public etc etc. Why? Because you make other people feel uneasy. As long as you live in a society, you mustn`t forget about others.

Great point, Pawian.
Who decides what's appropriate?
Sociopaths.

I hope the law in that case

it shouldn't matter at all. Why would one care what others are wearing, right?

see my post #30. I was little too slow. ;)

no, its their freedom of chioce to wear what they want. I get sick of the rules of the church eg. I cannot take mass because I am not a 'certified' Catholic. Someone tell me where Christ, at his last supper said that I couldnt take the mass. He said "this do in rememberance of me" He invited all who need his grace and mercy to partake in Holy communion until the day he shall return and take his faithful with him.
Do Catholic priests even know this?????
I cannot take mass
I am a Catholic and I agree that this is wrong. It should be available to anyone without even a bit of reservation.

I know and I would never offend others or encroach on anyones rites, but my point is that thye were more concerned with what I was wearing than the message of Easter. DO you read ur BIble Pawian???
What is ur opinion of women wearing mini-skirts to Church?
during the time we commemorate the death of our Lord Jesus,
Surely the resurrection no?
Its another case of Catholics throwing the Bible out of the window
Very odd
All the while, 2 pews across from me was sat a woman who I can only describe as being dressed like a S**t, as the weather dictated.
Its normal for women to have bare legs yet still dress appropriately. You are judging her while criticising others for judging you.
Oh, I didn't see that post Sascha, sorry. Who are we as members of a society if we don't question the rationale of decisions made on our behalf? There is a code at Israeli checkpoints. Does that mean the code is right?
I get sick of the rules of the church eg.
So be a man and don`t allow others to drag you to church.
I cannot take mass because I am not a 'certified' Catholic.
To the best of my knowledge, you don`t show any certificates before taking communion/mass.
He invited all who need his grace and mercy to partake in Holy communion until the day he shall return and take his faithful with him.
So, what is the problem?
you shouldn`t belch at the table
In Asia that's a must, otherwise the host is insulted that you didn't like his meal.
You shouldn`t wear shorts to church
Why? Who's "ordering" that bs? The faith?
smell your armpits in public
Hygiene issue.
Because you make other people feel uneasy.
Did you ask them?
Who are we as members of a society if we don't question the rationale of decisions made on our behalf?
Just stupid cattle and I refuse that role.
There is a code at Israeli checkpoints. Does that mean the code is right?
Know that, but my point was about contructed, prepared situations like business meetings and how those issues are treated elsewhere...
To the best of my knowledge, you don`t show any certificates before taking communion/mass.
Yes, but there is a part in the mass when it is aked all those not Christians to leave the Church proper. I think this is very outmoded and incorrect and also in contradiction with Christ's philosophy.

i see more wrongs when young women attend church than i do with men.
You should have seen the "wrongs" taking Communion in my CCD class here in Southern California. I Remember the pants were so tight on this one Italian-American girl's bubble butt that my eyes nearly lept out of their sockets. The pious expression on her face was straight out of a Correggio. She saw no contradiction between her beauty and her devotion and neither should we.

Sorry Barnster, dont think you got it! I was saying that she was dressed inappropriately as she was wearing a very short skirt, not the fact that she had bare legs. She should have bben wearing a knee lenth skirt, not looking like she had just left a disco.
Very odd
Do you read ur Bible Barnster?? If you did you would see how the Church has completely destroyed the message of the word to suit their own needs. Please read the New Tesatament then get back to me on that one. Why did Christ die???
Surely the resurrection no?
No, he hadnt quite risen on Saturday, again read ur Bible

God bless you. ;)

First they saw you entering the church. If you weren`t late, it was exactly the beginning of the service or even before it. There wasn`t any message delivered yet.
DO you read ur BIble Pawian???
No, I already know it by heart. :):)
What is ur opinion of women wearing mini-skirts to Church?
More critical as of your case. :):):)
Welsh, if you come to my church dressed in shorts, sandals and tank top, I won`t say a word. I don`t care.
But I know there are still people who care how others look. It refers not only to church but many other places and institutions. And as long as they care, you should conform to the rules, otherwise you will be given a cold shoulder which will again make you come to the forum and cry how unjustly you were treated.
Go get damn pants next time or simply don't go there. It's that simple.

No, I already know it by heart
So then you will know John 3v 16 (most non-believers know this one).
It mentions the word believers, not those dressed in trousers
So how is it that Islam doesn't even realise a resurrection and Judaism doesn't recognise Jesus as the Messiah? Such misguided behaviour from the Church here is exposing them for what they are. When I was last in a church here, they asked me for money. In order not to create a stir, I didn't take him to task on it but merely declined. I would far rather fight for those who are having their human rights trampled on. Surely Jesus would have valued that more than shorts.
????? I never heard of it.
I'll try to find it, Pawian, online.

I went straight from the beach to the Church, as always was the tradition when I lived ijn the UK, except there they didnt bat an eyelid, in fact noone even noticed me

There is also saying: "While in Rome..."
Seanus, you're a smart boy but please don't redirect this topic (again) to a crusade against Catholics.
We're talking here about the crazy dress code, that's it. There's no need to hurt people's feelings.

Will you also deny Pawian that Catholics are encouraged not to take mass unless they have been to confession???
That's because they aren't as conservative and judgemental, Welshie. What confidence are we to have in people who, statistically speaking, are 95% Catholic but only between 55-60% practise? Isn't this selectivism in and of itself? Where is this dress code to be found? Sb, please point me to an official source.
It's not a crusade against Catholics at all. If they can be upset at Welshie then we can be upset at them. 'Judge not lest ye be judged yourself' :) I'm just saying that religion is about belief, not about clothes.
