Strange attitude to shop naming in Poland?

This is one of the things that struck me - maybe it's not typical so hopefully someone can advise.

Been to Poland twice and I thought it strangely charmless the amount of retail outlets that simply said sklep. No other information. You would have no idea whatsoever what kind of sklep it was if not for the window display - and even then it's not always obvious.

Is this common?

Really? I live in Poland all my life and never noticed it. As a matter of fact, I cannot think of a single exaple. Maybe it is some special kind of shop, what's type is obivious to a Pole and puzzling to a foreigner... Still, it does not ring the bell.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe a shop in a small village, a village sporting just one, single shop, it would make sense. At least to me, it would make a sense.

Yes, I think so but more in villages.

Ah they are like corner shops, they usually sell bread, milk, cheese, pickles, maybe veg.

It's the other kinds of shops that are called something else, like a hardware store is called "Z Narzedziani".

You can find the same thing in small towns in Ireland, the shop is called shop, the butchers, the butchers and so on...

Another way of looking at it, and what confuses the heck out of me, is when I go to a shopping mall (Galeria) and I look at the map of all the shops, I have no idea what they sell because they are called people's names or something abstract.

I hate shopping.

Yes, you are right. I haven't noticed it before.
Some shops in here don't attract people to come in with a special name or unusual exhibitions. Actually, they scare me away, because wanting to buy (for example) one thing I feel guilty that I bought just it.

That is why I don't like shopping very much.
