Hello there,

im moving to Poland this month and I was wondering which sim card i should buy once I reach there. My primarily need will be internet(quite extensive since i have an android) and few calls texts here and there but not much.

Can anybody help me selecting the best service provider who can possibly provide service in english, atleast customer support in english? though i know being bad in polish doesnt excuse me :(

Play attracts me alot cuz i guess its cheap and they write they provide 4G connectivity(i have nexus s 4G) but i am not sure.

Please tell me the pros & cons of the network you are in.

Thank You.

PS i need pay as you go sim card(some call it pre paid also)

PLAY ONLINE INTERNET PREPAID WIRELESS INERNET , you can get a prepaid cards in any PLAY shop in Poland ,get some info in Polish on playmobile.pl

You can buy the stick( modem) + a card or just a card if you already have a stick/modem

Also have a look at abroadband.com ( i have not tried them though it is a worldwide provider which belongs to Austrian Telecom) ,you need to check on the playmobile .pl site if they offer 4 G connectivity as i simply used them for internet access, it was ok and cheap

First check starter Orange Free na kartę 1GB limit for 20zł
I think they have better coverage than PLAY.

Play Fresh - oferta na kartę price is 9zł and 1GB for 25zł

People are talking about two different things here. The OP asked about a PHONE SIM with a good data plan. Some people are talking about mobile broadband internet for laptops.

Yes but in Poland they offer cards which do both : Phone and Internet access, the OP said that His primary need would be internet

But he wants internet on his phone...thats my point. Mobile internet for laptops is not the same as mobile internet for phone. If you wanted mobile internet for laptop you need a usb plug in or a MiFi device...not a SIM. For the phone its just a 3g or 4g SIM card that can do high speed data. The older SIMS can get internet on the phone too just slower with EDGE.

I think he wanted to know which phone provider had the best data rates for a 3g/4g prepaid SIM for his phone.

On topic for the thread title, off topic to the original request:

They suggested me to get a Play prepaid in two steps: first, get a Orange 5 zl prepaid, then change to Play prepaid keeping your Orange number, because Play gives you 60 (?) zl free sms/calls if you come from other operators. Can it be so easy or is there a trap somewhere?

correct. i need internet in my phone cuz i will not have access to my computer much often. my primary need will be internet since i need skype in my phone to make cheap international calls.

When you reach 1GB total traffic and have forgotten to purchase another 1GB they start to charge you as normal expensive rate so be carefull and don't top up much money.

First buy inexpensive starters (without signing contract) and check coverage in place. Then decide which provider.
I'm using Play Fresh as a backup connection in case my cable provider connection is down so speed isn't crucial. I suppose that PLAY Fresh works with EDGE and PLAY Online with 3G.

so suppose if i buy Play online worth 19zl, i get 1GB data in the beginning and then with every charge, they give some free data like with 30zl they give 2GB data for 30 days. am i wrong?

yes i think Play Online give 3G speed of 1Mbps but in case if i want to get more speed then i have to pay them 10zl per month more for 4Mbps speed.

I suppose that PLAY Fresh works with EDGE and PLAY Online with 3G.

i was about to buy Play Fresh. if that is true, you saved me mate.
do these roadside kiosks sell Play Online as well? or do i have to visit their 'salon'?

It might be cheaper to buy a pay as you go sim card in each country. If you just buy one card, you will have to pay roaming charges which will be expensive.

The best solution is to have two phones: one with a SIM card which you don't change and you use for receiving calls and SMS and for sending SMS; and another phone for making calls (the SIM in that one changes when you change country). Roaming charges only apply when making calls, not to receiving calls.

I've seen phones that have space for two SIM cards. Popular in Iraq. Something like that would be a good idea but I don't know where you can buy them in Poland.

Those tend (in my experience) to be modifications using either an aftermarket battery cover which has space for two SIM cards or a single SIM card holder which one cuts down two SIM cards and shoves them into. I'd expect that Allegro would have such things. Ebay certainly does.

Roaming charges are charges when your network provider uses a sister network in another country. If you have a sim card from a certain country and you make calls within that country you would not be roaming, you would be making calls at that country's network providers rate. At least that's how I understand it.

[Moved from]: Can I buy Polish SIM Card online?

I am going to Poland in a few weeks and I just unlocked my iPhone to use when I am there. I probably won't have time to buy a SIM card (I will be on a very regimented tour). Can I buy a pre-paid polish SIM card online?

I probably won't have time to buy a SIM card (I will be on a very regimented tour).

You can buy them at the airport at the same shops which sell newspapers and cigarettes and pretty much every news-stand in Poland.

Merged: Polish sim card questions

Hi there!

Looking into getting a sim but can't decide between operators and also whether it is better to get pre paid or post paid. I have a smartphone so I need at least 1GB of data. Does anyone do unlimited data?

Any thoughts on which operator is better especially in Warsaw but also throughout Poland?

Thanks! :)

Plus offer no limit LTE, texts, calls and 2gb 3G for 60zl a month with sim only. The only problem if you have an iphone you cant use the no limit LTE.

I have a play sim card and then I just go to play24 and you can get unlimited 3G for 30 days for 10zl. The package also includes free calls and texts to other play mobiles (you can get extra add ons to cover other networks). I put in 50zl which does me fine for 3 months, 30zl for 3 internet packages and 20 zl incase I need to text back to the UK (but I rarely do that now with iMessage and facebook messenger).

Unfortunately that only applies to 3G though.

Play is good reception-wise in urban areas, once you get outside cities/towns it's by far the worst network.
However, it's probably one of the best if you're staying in city/town areas

Prepaid T-Mobile Fryii tariff put 50zl and is good for 6 months and you get free one of: Internet(first 50MB per day on 3G then slows down)/Tmobile+Heya calls/SMS to any network.
