Safety to live in Bialystok, Poland?

Hi everyone, I'm Ender I come from Vietnam. I will come to Bialystock , Poland next time to study as well as live there. The first problem, I really mention is the safety in there. Are there robber, terrorist or something which makes the new comers are worried about this thing?

Poland is a safe country then again if you flash money jewellery etc anywhere in the world someone will be there to get it.Just stay normal act normal and you will be just fine.

Yes, I'm a good citizen lol. I hope I will be received a great life in Poland. I'm gonna live in Bialystok next month. Futhermore, and find out a partime-job in there. :))). I love Poland.

Nope none whatsoever.I have been coming to Poland for the last 15 years almost every month and never once had a problem.In fact a friend of mine is from Vietnam and works for Polish secret police.

A few years ago Białystok was declared to be the safest city in Poland in terms of violent crime. Having said that, there is a history of racist thuggery, which is now being firmly dealt with by the authorities after a couple of very nasty incidents a year or two ago. There are lots of foreign students in Białystok, mostly white, but some Africans and Asians. For the most part you will have no problems, but you should be careful to avoid some areas and clubs at night. Your fellow students will give you more specific advice. Białystok has changed a lot in the fifteen years I have been working there. It is a city on the up, with a regenerated city centre and lots to do for students. The capital is two hours, fifteen minutes away by train. I hope you enjoy your time there. (btw, forget about getting a part time job)

Thank you too much your advices. I was more comfortable by your reply. One of the points I mention that is a part-time job. It means I cannt find out in there? ( I'm a white people ...:D not racist here! lol)

Does your school not offer help in finding a place to live?
You might find work among the small Vietnamese community, but without Polish language skills your chances of getting a job here are nil.

When i was living in Poland, i spend some time there.

Bialystok is a beautiful and good city. Cold even in the summer.

But be aware of one thing: Almost no one older than 30 years there speaks english.

Well, i was talking about my personal experience, obviously. I was there in July and during the day was below 20 degrees, during the night around 7.

I doubt that,maybe in the kitchen of a vietnamese restaurant who might pay poorly not to even cover your dinning expenses:)

None in B.Stok afaik. My uni students have a hard time finding work, and they're Polish. weintome should just forget about working here, and make sure s/he has enough funds to survive. Apart from rent, s/he will need at least 800PLN/month to have any kind of life.

Is it that short a journey now? I thought it was a bit more than three hours. Are the trains there those cramped Pendolino things or proper Polish trains?

Seems I'm wrong about that. Just checked the PKP site. Yes, three hours. I haven't taken the train for years but there used to be one at about 0725, the Mickiewicza, which was a great express train. Pity.

Vietnamese are the biggest Asian immigrants group in Poland. Now basically every city above 50 000 people has Vietnamese shops, usually selling cheap Chinese import.

Trains don't go between Warsaw and Bialystok for at least 1 year more. They're upgrading the line to 160km/h.

Here they say that basic work should be finished in 2015 whatever that means.

Roger, if you have ever used Polish trains you would know that except of few lines they go around 80km/h so 160 is big upgrade. The article says that 2nd stage of the renovation is to prepare for trains going 200km/h and that is enough to compete with car transport

Sure is.The express I mentioned earlier did it in about 150 minutes and was used mainly by commuters to Warsaw. The new train sounds great.


More than enough. From my place (50km south of B.Stok) I can hit Warsaw city limits in two hours, but then it takes another hour to get to Okęcie, for example. To stay on topic, the OP will arrive in time to see Białystok join the 21st century.

Hey,
I am probably needing to stop at Bialystok in August with my 10-year-old son. We'll be getting the bus from Kaunas arriving at 20.30. It is probably a stupid question, but is it safe around the train station area for us? In Estonia I am used to people having odd expectations of the country even though it is extremely safe. Maybe it is the same situation in Bialystok? I expect we will head to a hotel at this time.
