The "Rudification" Of Society - Is This Happening In Poland As Well?

Back to rudification, I was appalled at a shop assistant who left me standing while dithering around chatting to her colleagues. I wouldn't have minded so much but there were around 30 wasps flying around in manic fashion. I don't mind them that much but when they are all around you, it's not so good. They were attracted by the sugary donuts and pizzas. It was like she saw that I was uncomfortable and just decided to take no action. She saw I was peeved at her as I usually get on with that particular server.

I think that he remembered what America was all about, freedom of speech. He pushed the boundaries on that one sometimes but I'm not conservative so he was well within the lines as far as I'm concerned. He was just zany at times, talking about cheese hats or sth like that. A positive form of wacky, more for those that wake&bake.

It was more the struggle with and/or trying to break free from religion that after the Middle Ages produced the most fabulous works of art. Religious art is sth different. Beautiful too as art is supposed to be beautiful anyway. But you cannot say that it's only due to religion that the most beautiful or famous pieces of art have been produced: the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci is not a religious work (does not portray a religious situation or scene from the Bible), the Night Watch from Rembrandt is neither. Pablo Picasso's work is mainly non-religious, Dali, Breughel and most of the Dutch painters...


Not true - like in the previous example, art, literature and music are personal expression of these or those desires, wishes or frustrations. If you take a scale and lie on one side the religious oriented works of art and on the other side the non-religious works, I would say the scale would pretty much be in balance. You make the mistake to think that every secular state equals some sort of Socialist or Communist state, which is not true, there are many variations - what would you like to see instead of the current systems? A Theocracy? Hm, Iran is a Theocracy and we don't want to be in Iran, wouldn't we? There is a reason why Church and religion are no longer dominating forces. If given dominance, the Church will, just as any other dominant entity, try to cage ppl, mainly in spirit, but in the old days they even did it physically. And we don't want that. The Church is supposed to be the opposite of Communism, however, both will dominate and deal with dissenting opinions in an unpleasant way, as has been shown.

Don't have time to react to all of the posters - freaking busy for days now and I will be for more days to come - don't you just love it when replacements screw up the system and the SysAdmin has "forgotten" to look after that little problem with the backup servers we, unknown to anybody except the SysAdmin, had for almost 6 months?

I saw him at the Chicago Theater a few months ago and was very disappointed. His act was merely gross, not funny. I only laughed a couple of times during his two long sets. He is a much better actor than comedian. His stuff was teenage humor. The other comedians appearing with him were much better.

My opinion is that, there are more peasants or individuals with a farmer background (or worker)
and they don't have any traditions for manners or anything! the society is going down... Because there are nobody there to lift it up!

I can't speak to his more recent stuff but not long ago I watched one of his old stand-up routines from the early 90's (I believe) and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Doubled over in stomach pain from laughing... nearly wet myself! Lol...

It depends where you go. Go where old people are and rudeness is virtually guaranteed. PKO Bank Polski is a prime location for that.

I've noticed some thank yous on the go but still some glaring omissions. When crossing a makeshift bridge or moving through a tight spot at times when I had the right of way, I've waited and let them come across. No thank you whatsoever, not even a nod.

Hmm...there is a certain type of young moron that can be found in any country but it's defo not the case here that your average young person, when sober, is more impolite. Not on your nelly! I often get acknowledged for helping in some way but not by the oldies. The Americans that have been here have said that many young Americans can be really brash and that Poles are a step up.

Indeed, the young Poles I have met seem respectful.
Our society just doesn't teach respect anymore. In this Hip-hop Age things like manners are considered quaint while being rude or -"dissing" another- is cool. Backwards new age crap...

Another reason places like P-Land should resist Western influences these days...

Traditionally I think Poland is a culture where age has its privileges and one of them is the normal expectation of having the right of way and having small courtesies extended with no necessary need to acknowledge each and every one. On the other hand I'm usually thanked for greater than normal courtesy or help.

Youth will be youth but there is a softness in many students here in gimnazjum (junior high) and liceum (high school). I've taught them and they don't have the rough edge that a Scottish group typically has. Again, a bit of generalizing but discussions would go nowhere fast without them ;)
