How and where do I return empty alcohol bottles in Poland?

Hello,
I am new in Poland and I've heard that the empty beer and wine bottles can be returned for deposit? How much do they fetch each, and where do I return them to?

Just take them back to the shop you bought them from. Keep the receipt (I once had my local shop swear blind that they'd never stocked some I'd bought from them 2 days earlier). Only beer bottles though and not wine or vodka, and not all beer bottles (it says on the label if you can return them).

Yes, but it's better to give bottles which have a deposit on them to the gentlemen who can be found sleeping next to those bins.

right, I've been recycling them until now but I was curious how much you get for these bottles. Also, what symbol, or Polish words should I look for when trying to see if the bottle is returnable?

Not very much. Less than a zloty as far as I can recall. Maybe it's gone up nowadays.


I don't tend to buy beer in bottles much so don't really remember, but the words you should be looking for are something like "Zwrot kaucji"

Yea, that's what i do...more or less, just leave them and tin cans in a plastic bag for them to collect.

We save ours and take the aluminium to the złom place. I think it's worth about 5PLN/kg, but we usually swop it for kitchen rolls. Only in PL.

Actually I do disagree on this one, it is only promoting vagabondism.
And all too often I see (or foremostly smell) the said gentlemen on Warsaw public transport, a plague for all other passengers.
It is a mystery to me how a bar of soap can be too expensive, and a carton of pseudo wine cheap enough?
Same as I do not give money to the gentlemen offering to "keep an eye on your car".

They will always be with us. You can see them from Geneva to Mumbay. My feeling when asked for a pair of grosz is, "If my life was like that, I'd need a drink, too."

As for soap, I've just got back from the supermarket, where I was twice knocked back by the aroma of two well-dressed people.

just under 1 zloty? man that is a lot! Most of these beers cost 3zl so if the return gets me say 75gr, then with each 4 beers, I could theoretically buy a 5th one free.

The deposit on beer bottles is 35groszy on each bottle. This is shown on the bottle itself. I know this for sure, as I have spent the last 3 weeks buying beer and returning the empty bottles.

When you buy any beer the deposit is added to the price advertised. You must retain your receipt if you want actual money back.

You're right, of course.
But in my case I could only afford beer at 2.39 or 2.59 PLN per bottle, not one for 7 PLN or more. I should have been more specific.

I find that when I drink more expensive beer I drink less beer, so it costs about the same.
