I am really sorry this happened to you. I don't understand it either. I would have thought that with all the people that have left Poland and immigrated to multicultural countries- Poland would be more accepting of other cultures.

Where do you live? Perhaps this has something to do with it.
There are ignorant stupid a**holes everywhere- maybe you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't think your quote is racist- I edited my post and it came out that way. I meant the guy with the Polish mafia statement.

I just have a huge issue with Poles not wanting foreigners in their country but they are completely exempt when it comes to moving outside of Poland.

Poland for Poles is a bunch of crap.

Why do you think that? There are plenty of people around here looking for a reason to beat someone up.

Let me guess, 5 or 6 of them, probably 16-30, big poofy jackets, reek of cheap booze... But they're a bunch of pussies. Even when they have numerical superiority, they'll step back when you make it clear that you're up for a fight. I've never had any problems until my friend from the states came over, who's a bit darker. Anyway, those losers can't fight. Some of the hooligans on the other hand are pretty hardcore, but only tend to fight when provoked, and it's usually one on one. Just my two cents.

It's like that everywhere here in the States too. Big tough guys when in a group you see him later on by himself he's looking around where to vanish. Them guys in Poland who weight lift or take martial arts classes who go sober to football matches just to fight have some tough guys amongst them.

What was your friend Mexican?

Sure, but they're fighting other people who want to fight them. It's no fun just beating on someone.

What was your friend Mexican?

Half black.

Like I’m supposed to take some anonymous person at his word, get real! Look another anonymous nick that jumps on this bandwagon, nothing but a bunch of Trolls, perhaps even one and the same Troll. Word of advice, if you’re looking for trouble you will find it sooner or later, just like everywhere else. Mafia my ass, you’ve seen too many movies and your phantasies run wild.

no, I can't because I've never heard of anything like that before. I believe that you are a little bit obsessed with us being such a bad people PB and at the same time, with you guys being the best people in the world, am I right?

PolAms, GerAms etc doesn't matter, we're all Americans so wehn you're talking about PolAms, you're also talking about all of us.

Guesswho no one's obsessed with anything this is a discussion forum we speak about all things good and back. You live in the South how many of your neighbors are Polish of of Polish descent? 0? Come to Philadelphia, New York, Or Chicago live here for a while you'll see. I didn't say most, but I have met Polish-Americans who say around Poles yea I'm Polish, but when he's around his American friends he doesn't want to be around you it's like he's ashamed. It's like his family has been here for 1 or 2 generations and have just now (through lack of a connection with Poland, not keeping contact with family or linguistically deprived) have been able through Americans eyes be seen as the same as the rest of them and don't want to be associated with some immigrants for fear that the locals might see them like the immigrants are. I've been here long enough to read people well and how they are.

or maybe he's just seeing himself as an American (that he is).

and have just now (through lack of a connection with Poland, not keeping contact with family or linguistically deprived)

hey, it's a personal choice whether one chooses to live here as an American or not. You can't condemn them for feeling differently than you. OK, you feel strongly connected to Poland, that's fine (nothing against it) but there are many people who lived here long enough to feel and live like us. What's wrong with that? They're adult people who decided to immigrate to America at some point of their lives (some live here since many generations), most likely because there were many things they disliked about Poland and it's perfectly OK for them to be a part of this country. They are aware of their heritage but they are Americans, that's it.

Fine be American but don't claim to be Polish and in the presence of Poles look like you don't want to be around them as if them not being American speaking another language is embarrassing you. Most my friends here are Polish, when we have parties other nationalities come there are Americans of different background, Arabs, Latinos, Russians, Ukrainians everyone gets along. But there are also some homophobic locals who look down on foreigners.

I can believe it - you can see the same kind of thing with Arabs in France who despise recent immigrants.

Bet you're tempted to smack some of them in the face, especially if they act Polish to you and then pretend to be anything but Polish to other people - I wouldn't blame you!

So you've met some hypothetical American who claims to be Polish but feels embarrassed by people speaking Polish? That's just nonsense, give me a break and get a life.

Hm, why do you think that one can't claim his heritage? There's nothing wrong about knowing where your ancestors came from.

Most my friends here are Polish, when we have parties other nationalities come there are Americans of different background, Arabs, Latinos, Russians, Ukrainians everyone gets along.

good for you, one great American family :-)

But there are also some homophobic locals who look down on foreigners.

just like anywhere else in the world too, right?

Interesting that you of all people should give this advice, given that you yourself chose to be American and not Polish.

Guesswho don't take it the wrong way this July 1st marked me being here 20 years so of course I also feel American. I'm both Polish and American but leaning more towards Polish since I'm from there and it was my first language.

Yes true, that's more of a social and class thing than nationality related. if one notices stupid, ignorant people are the ones who are usually most prejudice hardly knowing anybody of the nationality they hate so much.
