Questions related to mobile phone networks and bank accounts in Poland

Hi all,

I arrived a few hours ago in Krakow and will start working in a few days at Krakow Business Park. I have a few questions though and was wondering if you could help me out:

1) What mobile phone operator would suit me best? In my country I had unlimited calls+texts + 2GB internet every month for 20€. I'd like something similar here in Poland as well, but would prefer prepaid if possible. I heard play has some good offers and it does seem very interesting, but are there any others with nice offers? I'm happy enough with 1GB, it doesn't have to be 2GB.

2) What about the 3G/4G network? I want an operator that can guarantee me near 100% 3G in Krakow, Edge/2G is plain annoying. Where I come from, you would need to pay extra for 4G coverage, is that the same here?

3) I will need to open a bank account here, however, I am currently staying at an appartmenthotel for 2 weeks. Is it possible to open a bank account with a temporary adress and change it later? I was also wondering what bank would be best for a foreigner who doesn't speak Polish and requires access to internet banking in the English language. I don't mind so much the rates, I merely require friendly staff thatcan help me in English + internet banking access :)

4) I am a EU-citizen. Is there besides opening a bank-account anything else that I need to do in Poland upon arrival? I don't think I need to get registered somewhere, or get some approval or visa or something, right?

5) Any tips as to how to approach life in Krakow in general, are also always welcome.

I will also conduct a search on the forums because it will probably have already been asked, but betting on 2 horses doesn't hurt!

I think that NjuMobile prepaid card should suit you best

Type the place under "wpisz lokalizacje" field - the map will show you coverage for njumobile network. Currently most popular is 3G network, but 4G in Nju should start this summer 2014. Probably you'll pay something extra for additional benefits of LTE.

I was also wondering what bank would be best for a foreigner who doesn't speak Polish and requires access to internet banking in the English language.

Choose mBank account - you can apply online, all what you need is your passport number, cellphone number, your mother maiden name, etc. - you'll type the address which you currently have.

form.mbank.com.pl/wnioski/ek/index.html - take courier option (translate whole page - it'll be easier)

It depends how long will you stay, and what's your plan in Poland.

Any tips as to how to approach life in Krakow in general, are also always welcome.

Krakow is foreigner friendly. Enjoy your stay!

You won't get one. Even in Warsaw in many places in the very centre you will not get a 3G signal in buildings. My flat is one such place. My office is another.

In theory you are supposed to apply for a registered address and a confirmation of right to reside in Poland. But in practice there is no punishment for not having those (you only need them to certain administrative acts, such as registering a car, etc).
